Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Nice surprise, but he took his time!   September 16, 2004
What first turned us on to SK were of course his productions appearing on numerous high profile compilations circa '99. I bought his first ever mix offering on Global Underground due in part to his quality production output yet more due to my allegiance to that tried and tested label. I sensed some interesting and exciting eclectisim in that mix though he essentially failed on what is a naive attempt due to too many dull, progressive plodders, shame, though that best describes the Nubreed series in general.

Great write ups of his DJ sets continued, his profile increased yet no follow up until a rather low key Essential Mix release in '02. That failed to encapsulate his live offering on Radio 1 of the same name and it seemed all hope was lost.

That brings us to this, his third link up with yet another big label with history and reputation far transcending his own.
I'm pleased to say he's learnt his lessons well and delivered a mix that not only emulates his fun yet classy sets but proves he can cut it with the best of the current crop in an over crowded marketplace of studio mixes.

All the slithers of exciting, unusual music that appeared before are oppulently present. It's balanced by well thought out set listing that ensures its never too quirky or odd, never over banging and certainly never boring. He's got perfect mesures of all the right ingredients and then some. The bass lines go deeper, the vocals range wider, let alone weirder, the prog isn't drog, it's prog yeah, but cool like it once was!
There's no points for studio wizardry because they all do it so slick nowadays. Where my 4 stars come from is pure listenability that cues repeat listening. Not because it's 'one for the head', but because it's refreshing. I'm sure it will have longevity too, it certainly will amongst the deluge of 'similar' mixes. No wonder he was offered a follow up, I await with baited breath.

4 out of 5 stars Sander does it again...   January 29, 2004
Having heard Sander play in Liverpool at the Aztec night, i know that he is a treendous DJ. Before that, i knew this because of his award-winning Essential Mix on Radio 1, which was absolutely top class.

This mix CD isn't in the same league as the two sets that i had previously heard by him, but it is really good, starting chunky, building up to the amazing 'Ride' by Chable & Bonicci on CD1.

CD2 then starts off all electro and builds through some driving house to some tough progressive (Chab's 'My Memory')

A great addition to any dance musics selection, but perhaps look at Global Underground's offerings first before this.

5 out of 5 stars Renaissance is back   January 17, 2004
Fabulous double cd with clearly a great deal of thought given to not only a quality track listing but also the mix - Superb CD - Renaissance finally back on track ? - best release since deep dish

4 out of 5 stars Surprised!   December 30, 2003
I was surprised when I first played this CD. After listening to some of K-Burgers earlier, boring work, this was a pleasant experience. Some moody, sexy tracks, smart mixing and creative balance of records. A good all-rounder, but breaking no boundaries here.

I'll keep it brief: Kleinenberg's GU Nubreed was an appalling disappointment. I completely wrote him off at the time. Having borrowed this release on a lark from a friend recently, I was absolutely floored. This is what dance music should be. Drawing on influences from anywhere and everywhere, Kleinenberg has forged a masterpiece and redeemed himself (and then some!) in the process. Anyone who thinks all dance music is the soundtrack of godless-robots, should hear this record. Anyone who loves music, should have it in their collection. Kleinenberg joins the likes of James Holden, Lemon 8 and Deep Dish as a true musician instead of just a dance music DJ/producer. Enjoy.
