Superb Dark Mix January 8, 2004 Mr. Samuel Alex Coulter (Brighton, East Sussex United Kingdom) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bought this album recently after hearing and enjoying Sander's GU Nubreed CD and his latest Everybody package for renaissance...... and was not disappointed. Although this effort is only 1 CD deep it is probably my favourite of the 3 aforementioned mixes. Somewhere else entirely to Everybody and not terribly similar to the GU CD Sander provides a dark sexy mix, the opening starting on a tribal theme gradually filtering to dark sexy techy-house tracks like the amazing Stonegroove by Kao (worth buying the album for alone!). At which point point Sander realises the need to change the script, for something of a vocal interlude by track 9 (where so many others would take the mix too 'deep') before the CD fades into the deep progressive house obscurity associated with so much within the genre before bringing in a more 'trancey' progressive house sound for the finale. As mentioned really do thing the Stonegroove track is rather special but as a whole the CD just 'works' and I just prefered the darker sexier sound of this CD to the somewhat housey house of everybody and the techy prog house served up on NuBreed (both fine CD's in their own rights however!)
Haven't stopped listening to it yet! June 25, 2003 I was browsing around amazon and found this CD by chance. I didn't know that it existed but instantly ordered because I liked Kleinenburg's "Global Underground - Nu Breed 4" double CD compilation so much, and I wasn't dissapointed. The pace is quite slow and moody sounding for the first 8 tracks, but still great to listen to. It then steps up a gear for the second half of the CD with "Gentle Rain" sounding very fresh in contrast to the earlier tracks. My favourite track is "Out of the Dark", (it reminds me slightly of Sasha's Xpander)and overall this CD is definately worth listening to if you like progressive tuneful mixes.
