Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Each of the Global Underground albums (from the likes of Sasha, Darren Emerson and Danny Tenaglia) have carried a distinct blend of house and trance--funky, progressive and intense. Dutch DJ, Sander Kleinenberg's mix on Nu Breed Vol. 4 is no exception. Disc One is that familiar hybrid of smooth and deep synth-led tunes with the premium on pretty melodies and consistent dancefloor shuffle. Kleinenberg's style leans towards peak-time podium classics but is distinguishable from the usual crop of mainstream compilations by virtue of his choices. The gems of the bunch include Satoshi Tomie's "Atari", Hernan Cantaneo's "Deep Funk" and Sasha and Emerson's moody, tribal "Scorcho". All possess an utterly infectious groove that kicks in the first ten seconds and then manages to ramp up the energy with raucous dubbed-out bass lines and quirky effects.

What's really worth the cash though is Disc Two, where we find Kleinenberg delivering a curious, eclectic mix in fine style. With cool and precisely engineered layers of rhythmic mystery and suspense, he begins gently with Zinger Meets Spry's off-centre jazz ramble, "Story of the Heaviest Bassline Ever" and Swayzak's lovely "State of Grace". Meanwhile old hands such as The Art of Noise ("Yebo") and Felix Da Housecat, (the demented "Silver Screen Shower Scene") rub shoulders with relative newcomers such as Ghosts' ("10th Planet") and Hidden ("Krystal") in a dancefloor meltdown which manages to be both sexy and wickedly aggressive. --Reuben Dessay

5 out of 5 stars Silky Smooth Stuff!   March 21, 2003

You cant fault this mix at all, disc one is the weaker mix of the two discs. Having said that though it is still better than most out there, it is well mixed and the track selection is spot on! Purple`s money shot and Banco De Gaia`s Obsidian are the best tracks.

Disc two though WOW!!! The best GU mix to date! It has little trippy sounds that somehow when combined with the wonderful basslines just make your eyes glaze over, and you just loose track of time totally!

Cant wait to see the man live!

Filthy basslines, remarkable mixing and overall one of the best GU release to date. This CD says it all, Sander's Nubreed days are over, he moving on and moving up. CD 2 alone is worth all money with memorable tracks such as Audiomontage's Fly Baby. This is the track where Sander starts taking you on a pounding journey and all I could do was dance. The CD gets darker and deeper but peaks with Gintare's Trancenavigation and then is one roller coaster of a ride until the end with tracks such as Ghosts by 10th Planet finishing off what is a beautiful crafted DJ set. Big Ups to Sander Kleinenberg. Watch out for this guy! He certainly made an addict out of me.

4 out of 5 stars A cutting edge of progressive sounds, pure delight.   March 1, 2002

Sander kleinenberg is the type of DJ that represents the lastest in progressive sounds and this CD certain lives up to that reputation. Both CDs begin rather relaxed and both build up into a whirl-wind of the most relentlessly cutting edge sounds that despite their simplicity keep you coming back for more like a drug, pounding the air and forcing you to get off your seat and dance no matter where you are. Whenever you by anything with a progressive label attached to it you are never sure what to expect and its the same with this CD. But the sound is so mesmorising, so unique that its impossible to compare it to anything else i've heard. Spooky vocals and trippy sounds effects accompany pounding tribal rhythms and whilst i certain would not call this sound trance the result leaves you in a similar hypnotic state of pure pleasure and excitement after what you've just heard and experienced. If you want something totally new and also something very different to anything else out there then this is a definitive CD, encompassing all the best parts of driving techno, trippy acid, vocal house and trance with that relentless fresh sound that is 'progressive'

This is one of the best CD's i have heard in a while. Sander perfectly builds his set from the easy flowing experimental tracks to the pulsing dark grooves.

Though i REALLY liked Anthony Pappa's and Steve Lawler's Nubreed mixes, this one is even more special. The flow of the 2 cd's is just too damn good.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Debut Mix... but trying too hard with Cd1?   April 18, 2001

Having just heard Sander live in Dublin (my hometown) I rushed out to buy this album. His live mix was incredible and I was initially dissapointed that he had left out David Forbe's - 'Questions must be asked' of which he mixed live for over ten minutes and is one of the best trance tracks I have heard in months! All the same I listened with open ears and enjoyed cd1's smooth beginning with Satoshie Tomiie's Atari, the abolute brilliance of Karma by Tarantella with it's positively filthy bassline and strange vocals (they got me dancing!). Luzon 's Manilla Sunrise and Jark Prongo's Onix1 also shone. I love Sasha & Darren Emerson's music but Scorchio is a weak track I feel and could've been left out. Rabbitweed & Expander are better refelcetions of Sasha's work. Cd2 however is much different to Cd1 and when my room was filled with tones of Swayzak's State of Grace I soon forgot about Cd1's mediocrity. On Cd2 Sander Kleinenberg has produced a blend of brilliant , vivid dance music with thundering basslines and venemous grooves - Gintare's Trance Navigation is outstanding and Marc O'Tool's Stauffenberg is gritty & hypnotic. I found this mix simply subliminal and almost as good as Sasha's live in Ibiza cd2 (still my favourite global underground mix). If you like Cd2 you would also like Lucien Foorts much under-acclaimed but phenomenal compilation 'Singularity'. If cd2 does'n't get you dancing I don't know what will !
