Excellent mp3 player October 15, 2008 Mr. E. A. Greenlay (Leeds, UK.) I bought one of these yesterday and I am really happy with my purchase. The set up is easy, even for a computer Luddite like myself. Easy to use and quality sound. I have no negative comments. So glad I didn't join the Apple iPod brigade.
Great little player October 4, 2008 Rob (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very impressed. This is a great little player. Sound quality is excellent especially with the headphones supplied (I have used the extension supplied to increase the cord length of the headphones).
Easy drag and drop either from file to file or easy sync in media player... easy to navigate. Very sturdy, quality feel.
I really like that you can only edit on the computer.... so there is no worry about accidentally deleting anything off the player while it is being used.
I was originally looking at the ipod but now that Sony has opened it's doors to drag & drop/media player decided to try this walkman instead (NWZ-A818). Extremely pleased.
I found it a bit tricky to work out how to transfer video to the player but have now worked this out. You need to convert your video to MP4 (lot's of free programs can do this). I use Free Studio Manager(natty little program). You will need to convert to PSP or ipod format - make sure you set resolution to 320x240 and way to go. Then just copy and paste into your walkman video file.
My only disappointments are that there is no case included and I am finding it difficult to find compatible charging stations and speakers or they are VERY expensive.
Otherwise, a great little player...couldn't be more pleased!
Very pleased! September 27, 2008 Harmony (England) Purchased an 8GB Sony Walkman a few weeks ago and it's great. No disrespect to Amazon (which is a great site) but I found it cheaper elsewhere. I had a small Sony MP3 player of only 250 and it was useless on a 14 day holiday! I've only used 4GB and I've over 1000 tracks of all types of music. It's small yet compact, VERY easy to use - thoroughly recommend it.
Average Sony player September 25, 2008 marky_77 (England) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
This average player is easy to use once you have everything on it, with 8gbs fitting nearly 3,500 tracks using wma 64kbps quality. There are problems however. The short lead on the head phones at the length of just over 30cm. If you don't have a shirt pocket then you have no where to put it. There's plenty of cord between the two ear phones at 55cm and there's no logic to that. Why have such a short main lead to the player. The sound with the head phones supplied is not as good as a cheaper pair of Sony one's I had before, which is strange as the head phones supplied are a lot more expensive separately.
The player doesn't come with any software for changing clips to mp4. Using Media Player to upload is a pain, and you can't always get the right album info or album art from their search. It also has to configure wma files while it's uploading in Media Player to the player (enough time was spent converting mp3 files to wma) so this lengthens the upload time. You have a feature to make up your own sound setting and save. The options there sound muffled and don't improve the sound. You have club, live, heavy, pop, unique and karaoke etc, and a few others. I managed to get a clear sound in the edit option that sounds much better then just having the normal or no effects setting set. Playing movies and clips works well and looks good on the colour screen once you have converted them to mp4.
The player went wrong once and stated that everything had gone. This happened while I was transferring wma files over in Windows Explorer, it froze up and wouldn't recognize anything on there. Although when I checked in Windows Explorer all the files where still showing on the player. I should have tried the re set button but forgot, and wiped the player and up loaded everything which took an age. The screen is easy to scratch, but most screens are. I have a clear screen case that goes over the player, but that scratches too.
Overall it's a well made player (as you would expect from Sony) that has many problems while getting it ready first off, and a few annoying ones while using...
Amazing September 25, 2008 S. Wong (Glos, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been trying to choose a good mp3 player for a while now and this one came up as one of the best on amazon...with over 150 5 star reviews.
I looked at some iPods but I heard the battery life isn't very good and the durability of them isn't that long. I also find the sound quality of the iPod average, a little bit muffled.
In the end I chose this mp3 player because it was cheaper (even cheaper than amazon because I got a brand new one from ebay for 85) than the iPod and the battery life was a striking feature.
The sound quality is amazing. User interface is easy to use. Drag and drop easy as well.
Only criticism is the annoyance of converting non-mp4 vids into mp4...and for some reason my photos I've uploaded don't work! However, they are very minor problems as I brought this product entirely for the music side and sony have not failed on that part.
