Not quite Greatest Hits, but still very good! July 4, 2006 C. A. French (Sussex) One of the best Greatest Hits albums around, I'm suprised it didn't get into the top 10; but It may have to do with their last album being a little bit of a let down. Get the bonus DVD edition a its even better, containing almost all their videos to date plus the new video for "Prime Time Of Your Life" which is a bit odd and not exactly for the faint hearted, I think is about an anorexic girl who sees eveyone else as skeletons- latterly! and tries to become one by doing something rather sick. But still its good! It also includes "Musique" a track that was released with "Da Funk" as a double a-side. Still all the tracks are great, but I'd wish they had put the full version of "Around The World" on it, the Radio Edit doesn't sound as good although it is much more shorter than the album version.
One More Time! April 12, 2006 Mr. S. Buljoo (United Kingdom AVON) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the definitely collection of all the best Daft Punk single through out their career. The only reason why i gave it 4stars. Because one track is missing out of this excellent collection is the rare remix of Franz Ferdinand 'Take Me Out (Daft Punk Remix'. Apart from that you get a wicked DVD video to groove!
Greatest Hits - not one to miss. April 9, 2006 Daft Punk Fan (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This latest release from Daft Punk might seem like it's nothing more than a cash-in before they go touring again in summer 06. However, if you're a hardcore fan, then there's some stuff on here you probably won't want to pass up.The CD is mainly stuff from the past three albums (most of it from Homework, and 3 songs a piece from Discovery and Human After All). It's a decent CD to listen to if you can't be bothered setting up a playlist with your favourite tracks, but otherwise, the majority of it is nothing new. There are 3 Daft Punk remixes as well, but none of them stood out as particularly amazing, and they did kinda seem tagged on as filler. The best part of the CD for me was the inclusion of "Musique" - the B side to Da Funk, which I bought back in 97, but then I lost the cassette and forgot how much I missed untill now. It's also worth noting that there are some very odd choices of tracks (or lack thereof) - there's no "Digital Love" or "Aerodynamic" for example, two of the best tracks from the awesome Discovery. The real highlight of this, however, is the DVD - it's got 5 videos of Homework tracks, three from Discovery/Interstella 555, and four from Human After All, including the immense "Robot Rock Maximum Overdrive" - which, if you're into glitch or cutup music is a real treat, though I can imagine it won't appeal to everyone's taste. But seeing the videos all in one place, collected together is such a treat. Daft Punk's videos are some of the best of recent years, if not all time. Definatley worth a look. All in all, I'd say, if you're a fan you'd be daft not to pick this up (apologies for the terrible, terrible pun).
A fine introduction to Daft Punk April 9, 2006 Mike Mantin (Bristol, UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Daft Punk have always struck me as a singles band, so it's fitting that they should receive a greatest hits, even if it is only after three albums (in twelve years? Slackers!). But despite patchy albums, occasional overdose on cheese and 'Human After All', Daft Punk remain a great dance act and a key influence on many today's dance artists, their fellow France natives Vitalic and M83 springing to mind. While good electronica remains a strictly underground prospect, Daft Punk are perhaps one of the only recent dance acts to have mainstream success and still distance themselves from the image of Ibiza, glow sticks and Bacardi Breezers. This a strong collection, despite some strange or unwise choices. 'Homework', their first, genre-busting album, is over-represented slightly. Those instantly-recognisable, classic singles 'Da Funk' and 'Around The World' are in place, but they could have bumped off one to make room for more from 'Discovery', which only gets three cuts. And here's where the ranting about omissions starts: why is the overly slushy 'Something About Us' here instead of the irony-splashed electro-cheesefest ballad 'Digital Love'? It's made up for, though, by the inclusion of 'One More Time' and 'Harder Better Faster Stronger', songs which sound as exciting and joyous through headphones as they do on a dancefloor. Amazingly, considering the panning it got on its release last year, three tracks are taken from 'Human After All'. Only its title track, though, deserves inclusion: 'Robot Rock' is as nasty and cliched as its title implies, and 'Technologic''s commentary on the digital age is just annoying. The collection is rounded off by three inessential remixes presumably added for the completists. Come on, whose idea was it to remix Gabrielle? Ignoring the fact that you can get Homework and Discovery for about a fiver each on Amazon Used & New, this is a decent introduction to Daft Punk, especially since, if you're quick, the album comes with a DVD of their legendary videos. Daft Punk are pioneers in the video field even more than in music: the hypnotising choreography on 'Around The World', Spike Jonze-directed canine surrealism of 'Da Funk' and cool manga animation of the 'Discovery' videos are not be missed and if you've never seen them before, you're in for an audio-visual treat.
A great anthology of Daft Punk's first 12 years April 4, 2006 Philip Lickley (UK) Those of you that have enjoyed any of Daft Punk's tracks over the last 12 years will love this album, including tracks from all three of their albums plus three remixes. The included DVD is also fantastic with the videos, including a never-before-seen promo video for 'The Prime Time Of Your Life'. The track selection is excellent. However, though the CD is dominated by 'Homework'-era tracks to please the fans who believed this was their best work, I would have preferred some more "Discovery"-era tracks. The absense of 'aerodynamic' and, especially, 'Digital Love' is enough for me to knock one star off this CD. But otherwise, an excellent CD / DVD and at Amazon's price you can't go wrong!
