Also the best of Kelly Llorenna. August 10, 2007 Duncan Layne (Bournemouth England) Having loved Set You Free I didn't like N-Trances later chart releases such as Stayin' Alive.
I bought this out of curiosity and am delighted to find lots more tracks in the style of Set You Free which I had never heard before, some with Kelly Llorenna's superb vocals.
If you like DJ Sammy or Robert Miles I would recommend this for these tracks alone.
dizzyingly diverse June 9, 2003 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
i only just recently got this album, and i am so glad i did. i bought it because i liked N-trance but didn't have anyof their stuff. this album has every song they've released and it is something of an eye opener. it's like year 5 school disco mixed with some of the bangin'est old skool and a little bit of magic. the two best versions of set you free are on this album, and were the main reason behind my purchasing of it. i just love the funky shake ya body and the annoyingly catchy D.I.S.C.O. combine this with the amazing tears in the rain and almost haunting sound of mind of the machine and you have got yourself one of the best albums in the whole wide world. to add to this brilliance, when i was looking to buy this album earlier this year i discovered that it had become rather rare. in the whole of Cheltenham i could find only ONE copy and it was extortionately expensive. this album is teriffic and i reckon everyone should get it. it is so diverse that it makes me dizzy, but there's something for everyone here! a real diamond!!!!!!!!
My prayers have finally been answered... January 27, 2002 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Finally I have access to all of N-Trance's singles - coz they're all on here!!! First of all you've got the fantastic "Set You Free": both the extended version of the original, and the recent remix which entered at No.4 in the UK charts. You'll also find the classic party covers of "Stayin' Alive", "D.I.S.C.O" & "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy". More harder edged tracks are found in "Violent Mechanical Psychopath" and the atmospheric "The Mind Of The Machine". With the rock/rap cover of "Paradise City" and a Megamix of some classic N-Trance tracks, this is THE ultimate necessity for any N-Trance fan. As for the new tracks "Forever" and the Latin-themed "Te Quiero" you'll LOVE them. THE N-Trance album to buy - accept no alternatives!!!
Different, but fun! December 30, 2001 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
I enjoyed this. It's different, but fun! The album reminds me, in some ways, of some of Snap's efforts, and their blend of Rap with Dance beats.Starting with the opening "Set You Free". What needs to be said. First released in 1992 this track languished in obscurity for a good 3 years. It was re-released in 1995 and still appears on compilations today. The album is almost worth buying for this track alone! The main reason I bought this album however was for the cover of Bee Gee's "Staying Alive". I first heard that when it was released in 1995. This track is lots of fun. Take a Bee Gee's classic. Put some cheesy late 80's / early 90's funk on it and add rap. The end result is actually highly entertaining! A Similar approach has been taken D.I.S.C.O, with Rod Stewart's "Do you think I'm sexy", with Guns n' Roses "Paradise City", and the other great covers on this album. Enough of the original song is present for it to be recognised, but yet so refreshingly different at the same time. In summary , the whole album reeks of the early 90's, but that doesn't detract from what the album set out to achieve. Getting you dancing!. While this album may not be definitive of what was happening in the 90's, and despite the fact that it is incredibly "cheesy" it is still a good fun party record and deserves a place in anyone's collection.
