Surprisingly ok May 31, 2008 Dangermouse (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Despite the terrible faux-beach cover with a bit of green gunk floating about in it and the equally naff name this is surprisingly ok-was 1999 the year of trance? The mixing is not that poor but does sound like it was knocked together by a computer programme. However it is on my I-pod so...
Mixed Feelings December 13, 2003 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
On paper, this CD should be fantastic. The track selection is excellent, and if I were to rate the CD on this alone then I would give it 5/5. The reason that I can't give an overall rating of 5/5 is because the mixing of the tracks seriously lets this CD down. I am, by now, used to fantastic compilations such as the Euphoria series mixed by Dave Pearce, The PF Project, Red Jerry, Lisa Lashes and a host of other top DJ's, and the Gatecrasher series mixed by the legendary Scott Bond. This perhaps slightly taints my opinion of Ibiza the Year of Trance vol.2 as this compilation is mixed nowhere near to the standard of Euphoria and Gatecrasher.CD2 is the better of the 2 CDs with incredible tracks like Agnelli & Nelson's Everyday and Balearic Bill's Destination Sunshine but CD1 is not without its charm. To sum up, the compilation is certainly uplifting but very poorly mixed. 5/5 for track selection, 2/5 for mixing. However, if you can get it at a very reasonable price like I did, then dont to be afraid to. This CD has a fantastic amount of potential, and had it been mixed by a top DJ like Dave Pearce or Judge Jules, I am confident that it would have been a massive success.
