Music For The Maases is a career retrospective of Timo Maas, mixed by the tranceman-of-the-moment himself. While a comprehensive collection of such a prodigious producer and remixer would be nearly impossible, this two-disc set is a pretty sensational trip through Maas's catalogue, the only somewhat glaring omission being his dance-floor wonder "Ubik" (guess we'll have to just be satisfied with it being on every other compilation from the year 2000). The first CD is the real winner here, beginning with what is a bit of a signature tune for Maas, his mix of Azzido Da Bass's "Doom's Night", and segueing into the loose, rubbery funk of Muse and Mad Dogs. Jan Driver's "Drive By", a definite grower with its crisp and nimble breaks, paves the way for a solid block of the DJ's own tunes, trance numbers lean enough to really showcase whatever shapes Maas throws on top. The first ends with Green Velvet's "Flash", in which Maas makes the Kool Keith of techno even more spookily unnerving than he already is. Disc Two takes a bit longer to warm up, but eventually finds its footing with an unreleased vocal track from Lustral. Things get a tad more emotional and epic with O and Poseidon before Maas finally closes with an amusingly disoriented Orinoko track that's so chilled it's as if he's heard the call of "Back to mine!" and followed you off the dance floor and into your living room for the comedown. --Bob Michaels

This is a brilliant album, with the exception of the annoying dooms night, none of the other tracks warrent any critism. If you're looking for a true dance album that rises above the sea of cheese usually available then this is it. Brilllliiaaaant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes - you too could mix mediocre dance music like this and earn stupid amounts of money for allegedly doing something different in the dance scene. OK, it's an above average mix cd and it is worth buying, but the press are wrong when they this man is doing it all different! Hardfloor have been doing this sort of stuff recently and it's far far better. Check out the likes of Terry Francis for some even better music (plus he's a Brit) - only problem is he only plays live so you can't listen to him in your car.

Wub Wub Wub Wub Wub Wub Wub Wub about sums it up really. It's all right I suppose. Take any standard House/Trance tune and add a wub/squelch/yelp at every half beat and you too can sound fresh like Mr. Maas. Try it, you'll be amazed and your friends will be delighted. Wub wub wub wub wub....

In my view you can throw the first CD away, but the second one is absolutely brilliant...some of the best tunes I've heard in ages, mixed to perfection and with great ingenuity. It sent shivers down my spine when I listened to it.....I just cant wait to hear this guy play in a club!
100% pure genius November 13, 2000
Timo Maas has just attained divine status in the world of Funk and Dance, as far as I'm concerned. Every tune has an identity of it's own, hard to achieve nowadays(and don't we all know it). I take my hat of to the man and bow down.
