Excellent November 30, 2007 Mr. M. A. Griffiths (Manchester, UK) Solarstone have been associated with trance since the late 1990's and have been integral in developing the genre. Through the years they have produced a distinct and outstanding portfolio. Although I have always known about Solarstone it wasn't until I heard "Like a Waterfall" on Tiesto's "In Search of Sunrise 4" that I really acknowledged them as one of the great trance legends.
The album Destinations is a credit to Solarstone, compiling songs that would otherwise be unheard by many into a musical masterpiece. It is CD 1 which is in my opinion "Excellent" especially the later tracks where both the mixing and choice of songs captures an uplifting mood suitable for any occasion. Tracks to listen to: - Solarstone - Like a Waterfall (Destinations Mix) - Way Out West - Killa (DJ Orkidea Mix) (In fact all songs on CD1)
This album is definitely a must have for all trance fans.
An epic trance compilation from master trance mixers, Solarstone August 3, 2006 Doctor Trance (MA, United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Is it Solarstone, or Solar Stone? I've seen it both ways, but I believe it's one word, as it's written on this CD and many of their other 12" releases. Anyway, if you are familiar with the Baeleric trance duo known as Solarstone, you know they are an expert at selecting, re-editing, and putting out some of the best trance of their own. Some of you may recall their Chill Out Euphoria CD, which brought chill/ambient trance to a whole new level, splicing and meshing their own sounds with re-edits of nearly every track. They also mixed disc 2 of the 1st Lost Language Exhibition CD mix, which is well worth finding if you don't have it already.
Again, they turn to their editing and mixing skills and come up with a very fresh sounding 2 disc set. Even if you see a track you've heard for months on here, it will sound refreshed, as they've had a hand in tweaking probably every track on here. I had heard Ronski Speed's 2Day a little too much lately, but managed to WANT to hear it all the way through again in this mix, just because it's amazing how Solarstone can spruce it up with just some slight re-editing. You'll also hear slight elements of some tracks, up to two tracks prior, before getting to that track full force.
You get a solid mix of some vocal trance, Balaeric trance, melodic trance, and some high energy stuff. I found disc 2 to be more solid all the way through, but you really can't go wrong or find a bad spot on either of these discs. I'm going with 4 stars because disc 1, although expertly mixed, just didn't have quite as a good flow from top to bottom.
One of the best club CDs in a long time February 6, 2006 Tony Jackson 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is just out and I snapped it up - much as I do with anything I can find with Solar Stone's name on it. Any seasoned clubber will know their super-hit Seven Cities - and many would have it somewhere in their Top Ten tracks. They are also responsible for many other tracks and remixes - one of the best being Release. This 2 CD package has a fantastic range of recent and future club hits including the amazing Topless by Action Level - a sound for 2006 drawing strong influences from Paul van Dyk's legendary For an Angel and surely to be a massive dancefloor hit this year. This one will stay in my ipod for a long time. Outstanding.
