Amazon.co.uk Review Since its foundation in the early Nineties, Liverpool's Cream has gone from strength to strength, joining Manchester's Hacienda and London's Ministry Of Sound as one of the most religiously-attended clubs of the post-Acid House era. This double CD showcases some of the tunes to have rocked its infamously enthusiastic crowd, as picked by two of its most popular DJ's, Seb Fontaine and Tall Paul. Both opt for Cream's trademark mixture of pumping, vocal-led house and shimmering, euphoric trance, combining recent dancefloor smashes with a few well-loved favourites. Tall Paul's selection is the bouncier, melding his own "Let Me Show You" with Westbam's classic "Wizards Of The Sonic". Fontaine meanwhile, segues the funky (Danny Tenaglia's gospel-tinged "Music Is The Answer") with the frenetic (Binary Finary's "1998"). All in all, a worthy testament to the high and even higher points of a superclub which has become a national institution. --Ed Potton

1998 in Dance music on 2 silver discs... February 8, 2002 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This compilation has been knocking around for a few years now and by this point in time Cream had stopped making really credible and interesting compilations and started down the route of bung 31 dance hits on an album and flog it to the punters (a la Ministry). That said this is 31 tunes from 1998 which all told was a pretty fine year for dance music. So you get classics like "Cafe Del Mar" by Energy 52, "Greece 2000" by Three Drives and "Everytime" by Lustral (which seems to appear on every Cream album after Autumn 1997 for some reason). You also get the ubiquitous "Music Sounds Better..." by Stardust (twice due to the licensing agreement!). The mixing's pretty good too. So it may not have been the most cutting edge dance compilation of 1998 (and certainly isn't now) but with tunes like this, who cares?
