Line 6 TonePort GX features ToneDirect low latency monitoring. Latency is the annoying and confusing time delay between playing your guitar and hearing the processed guitar sound through your DAW computer speakers. Other guitar interfaces solve this problem by allowing you to monitor the unprocessed dry guitar signal before it enters the DAW comptuter. While there is no delay, you also have no idea how your guitar really sounds as it misses the effects and modelliing processing. Line 6 TonePort GX with ToneDirect Monitoring allows you to hear the processed signal with extreme low latency, so you monitor exactly the sound your're playing and recording. Simply plug the Line 6 TonePort GX into your computers USB port, install the included Line 6 GearBox software, and turn your computer into a state-of-the-art recording studio. The included GearBox software provides a hardware-like, easy-to-navigate interface for dialing up the perfect tone, taken directly from the Line 6 POD and ready for your guitar, bass, and vocals. Instantly access meticulously crafted

i ordered this a few weeks ago and i have not been that impressed by the unit, the software that comes with it has a good few amps/effects bundled but to get more you have to pay $99 for each group on the line6 site, which is fair enough if you have money to burn but since this device is in the lower price spectrum i doubt many will be buying the software to get addons.

you plug it in with USB and use headphones or a 3.5mm jack to plug into your computers soundcard (NOT INCLUDED) i was pretty dissapointed because i could not hear anything thru usb, apparently this is because of the latency which gives the device a slight delay if you listen to it as a seperate soundcard, (it is recordable over usb just cannot listen to it live).

i figured out a way to hear what you're playing but with the Delay, you have to download VLC media player then open a capture device (the toneport) it is recognised as a seperate soundcard in windows so you can open it and play it back on your computers speakers, albeit with a 2-5 second delay.

i doubt il buy line6 products again, although this has decent sound leaving the 3.5mm jack out of the box is not very good (i read somwhere that its not meant to be plugged into the pc's soundcard although on the forums people say you can.... go figure).

i guess the best thing to do is research the product before buying it, nowhere does it actually say it will not play back over your speakers, which i class as missadvertising. unfortunately i couldnt find any reviews where people actually said what the product did so its tough i guess.

dont expect much support from line6, they are possible the worst company i have had to deal with, and as i said earlier i will not be buying another line6 device/amp/guitar ever again.

Excellent value for money. Just received mine, the sounds are so much better than I could ever get out of my Korg effects processor that cost me four times as much. Very low latency, only just detectable if you listen for it. No problems with installation. Seems to interact well with GarageBand on my MacBook, although have yet to record something. The casing doesn't feel cheap as you might expect for this kind of money. Although not a real guitar rig, if you want something to practice and record on a computer then you can't go wrong with this.
