Goin' back to Goa . . . June 25, 2008 Tramps like us (Surrey England) I don't know what it is - is it the arrival of the first few rays of sunshine - but dance music always sounds better in the summer. I had grown quite tired of "Trance" music as there was an awful lot of commercial type dross coming out but this set of CDs really does go back to the whole underground Goa scene as Mr Fleming states in his very informative sleeve notes. Some of my favourite Goa artistes like Astral Projection have moved over into this Psy Trance scene and this makes for some interesting listening. I urge anyone to listen to Wizzy Noise and Xerox and Illumination - absolutely wonderful.
First experience of Psy-Trance a good one! May 28, 2008 G. Skivington (Cambridge, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My Musical Background: I grew up listening to lots of very early trance back when John '00' Fleming was just hitting the decks and the likes of Binary Finary and Paul Van Dyk - For An Angel were released (good times). I then moved on into the world of what became known as Trancecore/Freeform Hardcore which had some amazing years (Sharkey's mixes Bonkers 3 to 5) and finally emerged into the sound of Tiesto and Van Buuren's weekly radio mixes (chillin in my later years).
I had begun to tire a little bit of the very fluffy trance that you get from these big names (don't get me wrong, they play some absolute corkers too) and fancied something different. I spotted this album purely from the mix artist John '00' Fleming and having purchased his Progressive mixes on Euphoria back in the day and been impressed, was drawn in to take a closer look.
I have never listened to Psy-Trance before and had no idea what to expect but have been thoroughly pleased with these three CD's. All three mixes are excellent with pure driving trance and infectious bubbly bass with hypnotic rhythms. The `Full On' mix is perhaps not what I would call full on but then I do come from a world where 180 bpm tracks where common place :P
If you like your trance a little bit less fluffy, less vocals, yet lots of layered sounds and excellent production work then look no further.
A wonderful introduction to a thriving underground scene May 13, 2008 C. Howarth (Manchester, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This set of mixes is intelligently produced and compiled to give an all-round taste of what is happening in the psy scene around the world. It is mixed by one of the more well-known DJs, and it is by its own admission based on his own take on the scene. As a bonus the third disc is 00 flemming's own work with the enigmatic Digital Blonde. Two Mix CDs and an Artist album?! What a rarity!
The music featured is superb and should keep any psy fan listening for hours!
Disc 1: The "Moning Mix" - This mix plays a trick on you as it sounds slower than the other discs but actually has more-or-less the same BPM. It features more "chilled" music and showcases progressive and experimental aspects of the genre. A good cd to listen at home to, but still danceable.
Disc 2: The "Full on Mix" - This as an exciting adrenaline fuelled disc that will make your hair stand on end. Heavy psychedelic dance music which is club-friendly but never sells its soul.
Disc 3: In some ways the "00.db" disc is actually the highlight of the album as it contains both heavy trance and experimental playfulness. Don't let the cheesy distorted voice-over at the start of the first track put you off! Otherwise it is immaculately produced, and up there with other psy-artist albums.

John oo Fleming is bringing a genre which isn't usually heard, it makes a refreshing change from mainstream trance. This is definately the sound of the late noughties. Great album
Classic 00 Fleming CD March 5, 2008 W Jarvis (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a great 3CD set. The 3 CDs are quite varied within the Psy Trance genre, although all tend more towards the techy side of the sound. CD1 is the Morning Trance CD - relatively tame and dreamy, gradually building to a more full-on trance experience. CD2 is the full on Psy Trance party mix, really deep and involved, with some great tracks. CD3 is John 00 Fleming and Digital Blonde artist CD, and this is also good, perhaps crossing over slighlty into John's more Progressive Trance sound that he's been so good at over the years. This is a great CD set, no two ways about it
