| Customer Reviews:
A different side of Paul Van Dyk November 8, 2003 C. Furey (Donegal, Ireland) When i first heard this in one of PVD's sets i thought that it was a good, if not, outstanding track. The mix Van Dyk plays in a club is a bit different, though, so you can't compare it directly to the single mixes. I was surprised when i eventually did discover that it was one of Paul's tunes as it sounds very different from anything he's done before. As with every successful artist, evolution and experimentation are essential to both musical development and fan gratification. Paul Van Dyk's latest album ( Reflections) is a bit of a mixed bag with, frankly, a few abberations but this track is a good example of successful creativity on his part. Another reviewer said that he didn't think it was really a club track. I would disagree and say that it is in a club where it really sounds its best. Listen to the watered down radio edit through a mediocre sound system and this sounds like an average poppy dance track. Hear it in the middle of a quality trance set and it adds considerable weight to the atmospherics. In the right context, this track more than holds its own! Pump it out at a "Cream" night in Amnesia and your hands won't leave the air! A welcome return to form.
Ambient Dance Has Evolved September 27, 2003 D. Moss (UK) Paul van Dyk's latest (featuring rising stars Hemstock & Jennings) is a tune which I think is misunderstood. To me, the synth strings and wordless, chanted vocals don't belong on the dance floor any more than FSOL's Papua New Guinea did 11 years ago. Perhaps in years to come, people will be wondering how this tune was ever considered a club track at all. The three included mixes are all fairly long, so there's 19 minutes of listening pleasure to be had.1. PVD Club Mix- Starts off in familiar territory with a typical solid PVD beat. The track through various stages as various synths and basslines are introduced and dropped, as well as the obvious main melody. The whole track is punctuated with the atmospheric vocals that peak over the main melody. 2. Faithless Remix- There's a very Asian, almost Indian feel to this remix, although it still sounds Faithless. Various samples and elements are worked into the mix, making this a very "journey" track. 3. Cirrus Mix 2- My favourite mix, this mix is breakbeat-based with a sound similar to Hybrid. It has a futuristic feel, with spheres and effects at work constantly, and an emphasis on vocals rather than the tune. The three mixes stretch the track over a variety of flavours, as each explors different territories. Overall I can't see this ever being a proper dancefloor tune, but as a lively ambient dance tune it works perfectly.
