Amazon.co.uk Review Like your favourite gourmet restaurant, Paul Oakenfold always mixes the familiar with pleasant new twists. On Ibiza, Oakenfold is every inch the vintage progressive house/trance DJ, both discs packed with springboard dynamics, variety and spice. Opening cut "Waiting", a John Creamer remix of a Nat Monday composition, gets the pulse jogging with 10-plus minutes of invigorating trance. Depeche Mode chip in with Danny Tenaglia's mix of "I Feel Loved" and there's his own lush mix of U2's "Beautiful Day". The collection is brought steaming home by Insigma's house trance driver "Open Your Eyes", and PPK's dramatic but house-fun "ResuRection (Space Club Mix)". Things do get a bit wonky midway through the record's first half, as Radiohead's "Idioteque" is too twee and tart for this mix's overall tone. It takes the freeway-crunching "Transit" by Arena to bring Ibiza back into comfortable contextual territory. Nobody manages to pack clubs worldwide like Oakenfold, and when he's really trying, nobody can pack a club into two discs like Oakenfold either. --Steffan Chirazi

Really Excellent February 13, 2008 S. Murphy (Ireland) This is another tour de force from oakenfold . So many different musical notes and styles mixed to perfection . It has oakey's trade mark sound stamped all over it and if you like oakey's sound you'll love this . I can't understand the negative reviews on here , maybe only a lucky proportion of us can fully appreciate the depth of some of oakenfold's sets . The album has an up balaeric feel to it . I love all of oakenfold's sets , they are all special each in their own way and even an off day for oakey still rises well above the others . I instantly liked this album on first hearing and that rarely happens for me . Thankyou oakey . Buy it .
I love Oakey, but this is highly disappointing... January 26, 2002 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
OK, we all know Oakey is THE man when it comes to mixing up trance. We have all listened to his Planet Perfecto stuff, 10 years of Cream, Transport, and the best album money can buy, Another World. However, this offering really is way below par. Its not the quality of the songs (individually many of them are OK), its not the mixing (its Oakey!), the problem is that he's trying to mix such a wide range of stuff that it just doesn't work. You CAN mix a range of stuff to good effect (see James Lavell FABRICLIVE:01), but he's trying to mix a lame version of a lame Depeche Mode song, and other songs that change the pace of the album completely rather than compliment the pace. If you listen to Another World by Oakey, he mixes in beautifully mellow pieces of vocals that only serve to get make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up when the beats kick in again. There is none of this on Ibiza. Oh, and calling it Ibiza. What's all that about ? Don't buy....Buy 'Another World'.
I wish Oakenfold could make up his mind September 15, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This CD is amazing, the reason anyone wouldn't like it is because it is so completely different. Every CD of Oakenfold is a different style of music and on this CD i think he's attempted to put many different kinds of music together; that is a really difficult thing to do. Oakenfold is still the best it's just he's bored of that no mind progressive music, but this CD is also a stretch. It has my two favorite songs in the world, resurrection and open our eyes, however it also has opened my eyes up to some of the worst songs in the world.Overall it's just a failed attempt to make people understand in a new type of music.

This will be the worst album in my collection, from the opening track I sat with a hope that it would get better and it didnt. If it wasnt endagering other road users it would have gone out the car window and have been found on the M4 with the rest of the rubbish. Sorry Oaky you USED to be the man.
TOP QUALITY PROGRESSIVE NUMBRES September 3, 2001 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Many of my mates can't understand why oakey is the best in the world, they think he's just another boring progressive DJ, well there wrong and this album proves it. Right from the start you can tell theres going to be something special in the album by the amazing vocals on the first few tracks. It was a suprise when I heard Elektronaughts because I never thought oakey palyed such great breakbeat by the end of cd 1 I was just gagging for some more and he delivered. The second cd was truly uplifting with the fusion of some great progressive tracks and the last few hard trance tracks on the cd, when it finished I was on such a high this is unquestionabley the best best album Paul oakenfold has ever put togheter
