Amazon.co.uk Review Arguably the most famous DJ in the world, circa 1999, and certainly one of the most influential across all fields of music, London mix-master Paul Oakenfold enjoys his first Global Underground release in America with a two-disc set that goes to the farthest corners of modern dance-club music. Oakenfold (who has remixed and spun for U2 and co-produced the Happy Mondays) obviously has a phenomenal record collection. Using the hues and vibes of Manhattan, Oakenfold weaves together a landmark house set for those who have never heard one. The first disc is smattered with trancey house grooves, with swirls of funk thrown in for good measure, thanks to Solar Stone's "Flood" and an effortless high-energy mix that allows brief recuperative moments before once again taking off a la the segue from Lustral's "Everytime" into Miro's "Paradise." The second disc sees Oakenfold playing around with some spacier jungle flavours, such as Ambrosia's "In Your Arms", before enjoying a break-beat-fuelled journey through Talisman & Hudson's "Leave Planet Earth", then effortlessly easing on into trance-house warmth again with Albion's "Air". New York shows that Oakenfold is certainly one of the smoothest operators behind the decks today. Unfazed by the confusing sub-genres of electronica, Oakenfold fondly embraces them all, fashioning sets of rich diversity. As with Global Underground's other releases, this disc is a great starting point for those who wish to dip their feet into club land's musical culture. --Steffan Chirazi

wrong number.......... June 25, 2008 Darren Wright THIS IS A GREAT COMPILATION,CLASSIC. BUT............ THIS IS NOT #1 IN THE SERIES,BEFORE THIS WE HAD TONI DE VIT NICK WARREN/PRAGUE,OAKENFOLD/OSLO AND JOHN DIGWEED/SYDNEY ALL CLASSIC MIXES AND WELL WORTH GETTING.
Another epic mix June 20, 2008 Sarcosuchus 10 years old now, but I have to concur with all the other reviewers, this really is something special. Both CDs have a unique flavour and the concept of an "aural journey" (groan) is pursued without ever descending into either the pretentious or the obvious. It takes a few listens to get into but it's well worth the effort. One of Oakey's best, alongside the Goa Mix (1994), the mighty Fluoro (1996), Another World (2000), and the awesome Creamfields from 2004, which demonstrates that he can still do it when he tries (ie, when he's not high on himself in Hollywood). Thoroughly recommended.

This CD is the best form of trance ever recorded and that's no surprise when Oakey is behind the turntables. Its got many rather unique but breathtaking tunes including Mystica and Ambrosia. The mixing is to absolute perfection. This CD is an exclamation of a top DJ's top skill. Oakenfold is GOD and this is his best CD. If you appreciate Paul Oakenfold's genius and his magical mixing skills, then this CD is for you; an absolute must have for any oakey fan out there. Go buy it - now!
