Product Description The Numark iDJ2 is the only iPod mixing console that provides full control of your music with realtime scratching (via two jog wheels), a stunning color screen and Numark's exclusive crate management. Keylock insures that DJs can easily change tempo without affecting pitch. The iDJ2 features a fresh and innovative new iPod docking system that allows users to play and mix two songs simultaneously from a single iPod without the need of a computer. Users can also hook up multiple mass storage devices including additional iPods, thumb drives, and external USB hard drives through rear panel USB ports. In addition to USB connectivity, the iDJ2 comes complete with line inputs for audio sources including a microphone, CD players and turntables.

Keep the decks in the attic January 29, 2008 J. McHugh (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
When I moved flats a couple of years ago, I thought the time was right to get rid of (some of) the 12"s and put the Technics away. I did miss messing around with tracks and doing the odd bit of mixing, so a partial solution a couple of years back was the Hercules DJ Console running Traktor on my Mac. This was an OK-ish compromise but the software was unstable and the mixer too small to really use properly. The virtual platters were the size of a crumpet and it was too easy to bash the wrong switch. Enter the IDJ2. Got this before Xmas and I must say I am impressed. The controls are intuitive and beat matching/tempo adjustment within the mix are easy (as long as you have some experience of DJing). You can load tracks from your iPod (it won't play copy protected tracks from iTunes, but will play their new new premium unprotected tracks and supports most other files) or even plug in USB memory sticks/CD players/decks so it is certainly versatile. The interface is easy to use and the colour screen is a good size. The software runs on a Linux platform and can be a bit glitchy (but not too bad) in probably 30/40 hours of mixing I have had one system error which required a reboot and a couple of firmware issues where it couldn't find it's own software. All OK sitting in your lounge messing about but not so good at a party! You can update software via the website using the USB stick provided. All in all I would recommend this for beginners and people like me who want to keep their hand in - and it will useful for parties or having as an option in a bar. I am not sure I would want to use it in a full-on club environment where a crashing interface would lead to a sudden loss of music on the dancefloor. There is a road case being launched for it by Numark at the moment so it will be a bit more portable. The only improvement I would make to its functionality is more effects - it has a looping ability and a virtual scratch mode but it would have been good to have some more options.
