Well this popped its head up for review shortly after I saw Pagan's Mind play live, so the appearance of Pagan's Mind vocalist Nils K.Rue was very welcome round my way.
X-World/5, for those of you who don't know, is a new band featuring King Diamond guitarist Andy La Rocque along with ex-Hammerfall bass player Magnus Rosen and former Bowie sideman Reeves Gabrels on guitar, as well as the aforementioned Nils K.Rue and this, their debut, is certainly quite an intriguing proposition. Are you sitting comfortably? Well, let's begin.

And it's actually pretty good stuff, despite the fact that heavy metal in the year 3006 seems to bear a remarkable resemblance to power metal in the year 2008. So much for progression. But the riffs are powerful , there are an assortment of memorable melodies and choruses, the band are firing on all cylinders, which is quite rare for musicians with lengthy pedigrees and their owns way of working, and it's certainly worth a listen.
The guitar work, in particular, is never less than excellent. And although there isn't a great deal of light and shade, with most of the songs following a similar mid tempo groove, fans of Hammerfall and Pagans Mind will find a great deal to enjoy here.
