4 out of 5 stars Moby Go Best Of...Remixed   July 17, 2007

Having always been a fan of Moby's earlier productions, it was nice to see he's best of album getting the remixed treatment, to bring it bang up to date with today's sounds. And it's a good job. The remixes in question really do vary, and will satisfy many fans of different genres. Whether it the trance sound of Ferry Corsten, or the housier sound of Mylo and Sandy Rivera, there really is something for everyone.

5 out of 5 stars Much better than you'd think!   May 1, 2007

Further to the previous review for this CD, I thought I'd put my own on here to put this album in it's proper context and stand up for the CD, which I think is really rather fine. It is not too dissimilar to the 'Mixed and Remixed' version of Everything is Wrong in and even shares one track with that excellent album, Feeling So Real (Old Skool Mix). The tracks are not strictly mixed however, they tend to fade rather quickly after 4-6 minutes, then the next track comes in - rather like a cheesy wedding DJ, though slightly better done!!
After a quick scan of the back, I thought I'd have most of these mixes as I have most, if not all, of Moby's CD singles, but many of these are unreleased mixes or vinyl-only, which makes this CD much better value than I first thought. As they are remixes, they do differ from the album/single versions, but that's the point and any buyer, sensible person or Moby fan should realise this anyway!
The mixes themselves are quite varied and tend to betray their age and era. The Play and 18 tracks are more trancey, for example the remixes by: Ferry Corsten, Katcha, Sandy Riviera and Push. The Hotel and more recent tracks are a lot more electro, the mixes by: Mylo, Olav Basoski and Benny Benassi, being typical of this. Then we get the likes of CJ Bolland, Armand Van Helden and Rollo and Sister Bliss (Faithless) doing what they do so well, together with a pair of good mixes by Manhattan Clique and 2 new mixes of Go (as if it didn't have enough already!)
All in all, a great CD for Moby fans and dance music fans alike, don't be put off by the fact it's remixes, I'd recommend this as I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and consistency. The emotion and melodic qualities of Moby's originals translates well into club tracks and is largely kept in tact by this selection of remixers, hence the 5 stars.

I bought this cd on an impulse buy, thinking it was a 'best of' rather than a 'remix' album (silly me). Remixing Moby's tracks has not improved on them at all - often taking the best bits out! So if you're going to buy this cd, make sure it's really what you want, and don't think of it as a Moby album.
