A step down for Goldie.. August 8, 2007 Bass Fiend (Paignton, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you've seen Goldie live then you'll understand his mixing skills (and most notably his ability to beatmatch) can often be described as patchy, but I find there are often those few inspired moments where it just seems to work for me. This certainly applies to this mix to some degree. For starters, noone can discount the quality selection of dnb classics on offer here, especially the blend of old and new. I found disc 1 flowed quite nicely, but less so can be said about much of disc 2 which I found jarring and on the amateurish side at times (although it picks up towards the end). The old Goldie magic is there in places, but most of the time I don't think his mixing comes across particulary well. It seemed little thought or planning had gone into how to make it work as a whole. If you can put up with a few cringeworthy moments scattered throughout the album then I'd say its not bad for someone new to dnb, otherwise save your money and immerse yourself into Goldies older mixes such as Goldie.co.uk and INCredible Sound of Drum n Bass, both of which are dark and energetic mixes whilst being simultaneously melodic and captivating.

What can i say, a masterpiece in d 'n' b compilations. With the likes pendulum, calyx, shy fx, goldie, roni size and dj zinc, this compilation delivers to the max!!!!!!! Having only just acquired it i have yet to give it proper use, but it is 99.9% likely that this compilation will stand up to the challenge and be a favourite for many seasons to come!!
