Unfairly Overlooked - A Rare Gem September 19, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This release was so fairly overlooked by most shoppers. After years of crappy compilations of old skool favourites, it's perhaps no suprise. But unlike it's counterparts, this compilation manages to avoid a simmilar fate and is, in fact, an excellent overview of the best in commercial house from the late 80's onwards. From the power-houses of vocal house [I'll try and cut back on using the 'H' word from here on] that are the first three tracks of the first disc, right through to the supreme simplicity of the instrumental tracks like 'Time to Stop' and of course the timeless 'Plastic Dreams', it's all here.I really would recommend this to any house or dance lover. I'd especially give it the thumbs up to anyone just starting to get into house. This CD will give you a full range of classics from yester-year that will serve as an excellent introduction to the WWW [Wonderful World of House :-p]. Ministry of Sound pulled out all the stops to make this a steller compilation - it just sounds classy and as funky as ever. A must purchase.
Ministry old skool not house March 23, 2004 Jamie E. I. Wright Ministry what you calling this house for this cd is a very good selection of some good old skool out there.Be warned boys and girls if you havent a taste for old skool then dont get it but old skool yes a nice collection. So when you feel like listing to good house collection dont put this on.So its not house classics at all but its a good cd.
This is for those who appreciate real house music January 11, 2004 househead 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The reviewer who wrote "This should never have been called House Classics. This is all old skool" obviously doesn't know anything about real house music. I seldom buy into the commercialism of today's MoS, but I was pleasantly surprised by this compilation when I previewed it. If you're exploring some old house anthems, CD 1 is a good start. Plenty of class tracks that are getting difficult to find on CDs. CD 2 should be more suitably called as "new anthems", as they are mostly disco and vocal house anthems from the late 90s. All in all, this compilation should satisfy music lovers who are getting tired of proggy and techy or whatever sound of today's so-called "house" music.
House at it's best October 18, 2003 G. Ormrod (lancashire) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Just by looking at the track listing above you probably know almost every track on this, each one a massive dance classic. Recently there has been a massive wave of dance and old skool compilations, most of which over-lapped each other with the same songs on them. This album has managed to steer clear of this; ok there are the obviously huge hits that you couldn't ignore (Finally, To be in love), but the majority of songs, although well known, have been largely ignored by compilations. This makes this a great album to buy; you may have a lot of these songs floating about the place, but having them on one album is great. The whole feel of this album is upbeat, happy-making, melodic house. If you like old skool and house, this is a must ;-)
