Messy album of classics March 15, 2004 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
There is no doubt to the 'classic' status of the tracks on this album. They are all memorable and some are still played in clubs today. It is becoming a bit of a washout though since there are zillions of compilations just like this on the market. If you have one of the classic compilations you have them all! Each of these compilations have the majority of the same tracks on them. Judging on its own merits this compilation is a bit of a mare. The mixing is sporadic in timing and quality. For instance the mixing between Needin U and Dreamer is very good, but other mixes are 'just press stop on one and start on the other at the same time' mixing. Some of the editing is not particularly good either. The cutting of Darude- Sandstorm is a particular howler. The album maintains a fast pace but just feels rushed and unloved. There are better quality albums out there. Try the Very Best Of Euphoria or Jules' Trance Nation 3CD album with the classics on. If house is more your bag there is better in that department too. This CD takes the very best songs and turns them into a very average mish mash. If you are looking for a classics compilation then this would be an option, but it would be buying a beefburger when there are steaks around.
An amazing mix of great tunes! July 8, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It is fantastic. It makes your bedroom feel like a club in Ibiza! It makes you get up and dance! It’s one of those CD’s that you play before a big party/night out! It is truly fantastic! Some of the GREATEST tracks ever recorded, on CD. You can listen to it over and over again and you won’t like it any less. You MUST buy this because it will get any party/night out goin’ and it is just that bit above the rest of any other Ibiza album! Please for the sake of fun, Buy this album!
old skool? July 7, 2003 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
there's nothing especially old about this old skool.though admittedly as time moves on, the old skool moves with it. it's just that the songs on this cd are mostly less than 5 years old, although some are older. the second cd is by far the best with anthemic tunes such as atb's (9 pm) till i come and underworld's born slippy. whilst i think the title of this cd is not appropriate for the age of the music on it, it doesn't make it a bad cd so don't be put off cos it's not all that bad.
Ibizaaaaaaaaaa July 1, 2003 DL Productions UK (Merseyside, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Ministry of Sound have been very busy putting out compilations lately, and this 2nd installment of Back To The Old Skool albums of this year is pretty hot. It definately has a very Baleric feel to it, beats from Cafe Del Mar and Moloko really make you feel like you're there, in a club, and the DJ is rocking the place.Other fine moments come from Mousse T, Robert Miles and the excellent Dave Morales. Personal favourites include the cool Ultra Nate with Free, and Livin' Joy's 1995 offering, Dreamer. Listening to this is quite a joy in itself. The mixing is great and the choice of tracks is great. Maybe a bit too commercial, but you have to admit these were some of the hottest things to hit Ibiza over 10 years. Well compiled and well thought out. Well done MOS.
