Amazon.co.uk Review As summer 2001 draws to a close there's just enough time to cram one more chillout compilation in and as such albums go, Ibiza Chillout Session from the Ministry of Sound is a fitting way to end the season. No one could be faulted for asking how this differs from either of the massive Chillout Sessions Vol 1 or Vol 2 but there is a distinctive difference. The best way of describing it would be a mainstream response to such series as Cafe Del Mar or Buddha Bar with more world influenced dance tracks thrown in with gentle mixes of club favourites. Afterlife mixes pop up on a number of occasions with the most extreme being a trippy interpretation of Roger Sanchez's "Another Chance" that is awash with synth, strings and tabla. Straight-up downbeat tracks like Groove Armada's "At The River" and I Monster's "Daydream" sit well amidst the world and folk influenced Nitin Sawhney ("Sunset") and Los Chicharrons ("Summer Fling"). Disc two brings the more eclectic past masters like The Orb who were making whacked-out space instrumentals before the term "Chillout" was even invented. To scan through the track listing, the one bound to catch any eye would be Simply Red's "Thrill Me" presented in an ambient mix which (although still worth a skip on the CD player) isn't nearly so bad or out of place as it may sound. Again, a great compilation from Ministry who know what they're doing with this kind of thing but with space on the chillout market growing smaller by the day, a follow-up volume might just be overkill. --Georgina Collins

Big time deja vu October 5, 2001 R. Graubner (Manchester, UK) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Seeing that this follows after the excellent Chillout Session 2, i have to say i'm not impressed with this follow up. There are way too many tunes lifted straight from the previous 2 albums, and its not like there is a lack of quality chillout music to choose from!MoS also seem to have a knack for choosing rubbish remixes of certain songs on their compilations, such as Jakatta's American Dream (the definitive version of which appears on Chilled Out Euphoria) and Bent's Swollen. Why they decided to go with the remix they did rather than the totally brilliant (and in my opinion more chilled) Dusted remix is beyond me. On the other hand, it's not all bad. If you don't own Chillout Session 1 or 2 from MoS buy this by all means, but if you own either one of them go and get Chilled Out Euphoria which is superior in almost every way.

Hmmm, its seems like this has all been done before with tracks such as Groove Armada's 'At The River' popping up again. To some extent its very similar to the first two ministry chill out albums, but there is a slightly different twist and enough new tracks to make this album worthwhile. Saying that I'm still not sure what Simply Red are doing there.
Another great album from MoS... but is it a cash in?? August 28, 2001 David 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is obviously similar in many respects to the Chillout Sessions 1 & 2. This might put off people off buying it, but it really shouldn't. If you own both the Chillout Sessions, it's pretty to safe to assume that you like this type of music. This Cd does share some of the tracks with the Chillout Sessions, which is another thing to consider, but there are many new tracks on there as well. Anyway, as all the MoS albums take the best tracks you're bound to get some duplicates, but there are like 34+ tracks that you probably won't have, and that is definately worth it, especially as you have different mixes. Overall this album is great, and really does remind you of the sunset isle. If you own a lot of Chillout music it might be worth just seeing how many of the tracks you allready own, but apart from that I would definately recommend this to any fan of Ibiza. Not MoS's best album by any means, but a average MoS Cd is still better than most...
