4 out of 5 stars Fantastic Millennium party album, but should have been amazing...   May 1, 2006
T. Clarke (UK)

1999 has been by far the best year for trance. There were so many albums released that year - good and bad, its hard to know which are the best. Luckily, the annual millenium edition manages to 'just about' pick up on some of the best tunes during this year, and put them in an excellent mix.
Its understandable there have been mixed reviews - this was probably the 1st annual to be really commercial (naturally, for marketing around the year 2000) and so instead of having a mix of lesser known tunes, the annual millenium takes some of the more well known tunes throughout the year. But this isnt too bad - there are some excellent songs, Better Off Alone really is a classic song - simple but a very catchy and memorable. 9pm was another massive hit, but the signum mix was included which wasnt as good as the original unfortunatley. Then there are other lesser known tunes, such as Sanctuary, which is completely under-rated - a real classic and probably the best tune on the album. Toca Me, Everyday, Liberation, Bullet In The Gun, Happiness Happening, The Awakening... the list goes on for amazing songs that surely will have you partying away, and i'm pretty sure thats what Tall Paul and Judge Jules had in mind this year, they wanted the parties to be big.
The songs are well ordered too - Hey Boy Hey Girl is a great song and kicks starts the album well, along with the next 2 tracks that are really uplifting and ideal for starting the album. The mixing you'll hear from these first 3 songs will probably be the best your gonna gear on an MoS annual album - amazing! The house tunes that follow are mixed - some good and some average, but popular classics include Turn Around, You Dont Know Me, and Sing It Back. Again very commercial, but the difference between these tunes and newer ones (2006) is that they were actually good non-cheese commercial tunes, that everyone knew and talked about, unlike now were unfortunately, the annuals success depends on attracting a much younger audience to buy the album, and how many "chart hits" can be crammed onto 2 cd's and a pointless dvd.
I felt Tall Pauls mix was a bit dodgey at times - his beat matching wasnt up to scratch after say, Toca Me. I think this continued from The Ibiza Annual 99, as that was a dissapointing album with some dodgey mixing.
For me, album of the year '99 would be either gatecrasher red or wet, or ibiza euphoria - most likely crasher red (one of the best trance albums ever!) But if your looking for something more commercial, with most of the big hits for this year, then I wouldnt put you off buying this - ideal for a party!

4 out of 5 stars A realy good album but had the potential to be great!   November 25, 2003

This album should have been the best MOS ever as it was a review of the year of trance but some how failed. The tracks are good the mixing is also well done but its just missing something. Ibiza Euphoria makes you feel all summery and after listening to that you wanna put on your glad rags and paaaarty but this just makes you want to put another album from the same period on. Dont get me wrong its a good album but it should have been great. MOS Annuals from 97 and 98 are by far better.

4 out of 5 stars Great Compilation   November 16, 2001

This CD is an excellent introduction to house and trance. Although it lacks a uniform sound, if you like different types of techno you will most likely enjoy this. The second half of the second disk is my favorite.

Overall this is a good CD. I live in the US and don't seem to get to much good techno out here. I really liked the first CD in the set but as i started getting into techno more the second cd became my favorite b/c it is much more dark.
