This CD is fantastic. Easily has the ability to get the party started but be warned - This CD is for house music connoisseurs only!
A bit boring December 3, 2005 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
It starts good; the 5 first tracks on CD1 are cool, not danceable though, but funky "chill-house", nice background music when driving car, chilling out or whatever. But after this, it becomes pretty boring; uninspiring, lifeless deep-house. This 2Cd is probably ok if you want some background, chilled house music, but it will most definitely NOT wanna make you dance. In other words, it's not a party CD. Except for some tracks, I found this CD pretty boring. Use your money on something else...
This is Phunky July 27, 2003 R. Turner 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is the first segment of 3 in the excellent 'in the house' series by defected and is damn funky. If it's a mass of uplifting house that you require, then I don't think you'll make a better purchase than this. This has been the soundtrack to my summer. Stand out tracks for me include the immensly funky Dont You Love Me - Sir Piers Feat. Monique Bingham with it's playful and mint bassline and Rhythm Slaves 'I can feel it' , which is a brilliant electro based tune. This is smashing

I've always been suspicious of 'defected' compliatins as they seem a little label orientated of late. However these two Naked Recordings stalwarts come along and blow the place up.Okay Defected still provides more tracks than any other label, but its only a handful and given that they do produce some blinding tracks its unlikely that either DJ felt obliged towards bias. Okay boring stuff first, the mixing is a tight as. Now to interesting bit - the tracks... well they're all good, not a limp album filler anywhere. The mixes (version) chosen for each song make this album perfect for the stereo or at a smaller house party. This compares with many albums that are based towards a dance floor and sound overwhelming in a more intimate surrounding. Both JayJ and Miguel Migs set the pace right. Standout tracks include the Dawn Penn covered 'No no no', 'Ethnicity Part 1' by Grant Nelson and '#1' by the curiously named Blaggers World. If you want an album to welcome in the summer with then this is it...
