Amazon.co.uk Review Continuing the highly popular Mushroom Jazz series, Mark Farina goes for late-night purple velvet and down-tempo 2 am atmospheres on this third instalment, resulting in an electronic release for lounge lizards the world over. A basic hip-hop loop is the canvas throughout this 19-track mix, and on it Farina paints a series of smooth, sometimes shady but always sassy portraits, resulting in a thoroughly credible electronically-glazed slow-jam record. Opening with the wholly seductive cruise control of "California Sauce" by King Kooba, Farina goes on to introduce some silky-smooth, French lounge by Raw Instinct with "de La Bass", the late-night Manhattan flavours of Herb Alpert's "Flirtation" and the warm Philadelphian evening breeze of Slide Five's "Streamline". In deftly fusing jazz and hip-hop with down-tempo beats, Farina has produced a mix which works for thoughtful driving, romantic evenings or hip soirees. --Steffan Chirazi

Unrivaled clarity, style and fantastic selection November 7, 2003 From the best hip-hop mix album ever made, comes the tunes that went together to make it all work. I love all of these tunes - they're all so different. It's amazing how Mark Farina made the blend so sweet on MJ3. This vinyl set is a must for any true hip-hop fan. Tip: Re-record the album in the order in which the tunes appear on the mixed version. Works a treat!
The best hip-hop mix album ever made November 7, 2003 Mushroom Jazz Volume Three is quite simply the best Hip-Hop mix album ever made! But is it hip-hop or jazz? Who can tell, since Mark Farina blends each track with subtlety and magnificence. The turntables and sampler are his musical instruments on this record. Each vocal sample is placed perfectly throughout the various tracks. You have to listen to this recording as a complete set - from start to finish you're gripped - no matter how many times you listen to it. Having said that, if you really want to see why Farina is such a good DJ, examine the way the second half of the album is put together - from track 10 onwards. Each mix is even more perfect perfect. Each track is even more perfect. The mood lifts unreachably high, and then comes the "Trackrunners" tune. Blows me away every time! This CD is perfect. BUY IT! LISTEN TO IT! Even after 100 plays, you can always find something new, and it still sounds fresh! Do check out the vinyl edition of all the MJ series to see (1) how different the tracks sound unmixed and (2) where Mark Farina gets his inspiration from. Mushroom Jazz Volume 3 - The benchmark for hip-hop mixing.
