Great spec but flawed product December 15, 2008 Khizer Chief (Bradford, UK) I bought this based on spec for price but have now returned it. I bought this product and the day after receiving it, the touchpad turned its scrolling function off. I called Acer who asked me to reinstall the driver. This didn't work, then I was told to do a recovery. This worked but the problem reoccurred. I called them up again, they went through a way of reinstalling the driver, which finally worked but caused me to manually run the touchpad driver through a prompt in windows. Not something I wanted to live with. Its like my PC always asking me if I want to run the software to enable my mouse, at startup. The error came back again and the scroll function on the touchpad and the 4-way scroll button both turned off. Called Acer who recommended a recovery. I told them that my 250gb hard drive might as well be 10mb if I have to keep formatting it to resolve the problem, and lose all my existing data or resort to backing it up. They agreed and told me to return it. I think it was just the technician's way of getting me of the phone as most calls to them last 30 seconds as they quickly tell you what to do and leave you to figure it out. Amazon are spot on with their returns policy. The product is not recommended but buying from Amazon is. You can really buy with confidence. I will buy another laptop of lower spec but the same price. You get what you pay for and in this case that was what happened.
Great value laptop December 8, 2008 J. Adams (N.Ireland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Got this laptop as a replacement for a broken dell 6400 and boy does it do the job . i was mainly interested in a playing videos , music and the odd game as i'm a student . This Acer passes with flying colours , it runs everything you can throw at it . The latest game i've tried is football manager 2009 and it runs quick and smooth . The blue ray player isnt bad and the laptop comes with an hdmi port so you can play it off a hd Tv . Overall , this laptop is a quality purchase for the price.

Good all round laptop and great value! Badly set up December 7, 2008 Raptr 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This Laptop for the current price is an absolute steal!
Just to confirm the graphics processor is indeed a ATI HD 3470 Mobility 256MB (1536MB via use of RAM) and not anything else advertised.
The laptop is brilliant it surfs internet, plays some games and with a blu-ray drive makes a great portable blu-ray player when I go round my sisters (who has an HDTV but no BD).
For gaming this laptop is not going to suit enthusiasts (although you probably knew that if you are one) but does play Crysis: Warhead on low with a 1280 x 800 resolution very smoothly as it does Lost Planet. DX9 games like Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 and Team Fortress 2 play extremely well on medium settings once again on 1280 x 800 resolution.
However, one thing I disliked was that there left overs from a nVidia driver install! I assume this is because originally this model indeed had a 8600 GT and Acer hadn't quite got round to updating their own image when setting these laptops up.
Finally the Acer e security software makes installing third party security software like Zone alarm a night mare, I recommend removing it. The blu-ray play back software is also horrid and I'm going to be sticking on cyberlink because it's that bad and it also seems to be quite unstable however, this could be because I hacked the the most recent 8.11 ATI drivers to work on this laptop (as the acer version only go up to 8.4).
However don't this put you off, the laptop is superb and it lights up beautifully. Its performance is excellent and you wont find a better price for a laptop with this kind of spec anywhere else!
Anyways don't let those things
It does exactly what it says on the tin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! November 23, 2008 A. Jones (Grimsby, UK) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
I have just bought this item and WOW what a piece of kit. I know all of you budding computer experts and mega gamers might disagree, and yes you can buy better machines than this, BUT (and it is a big BUT) you can not get this sort of system, with this sort of setup, at this low price, and don't be fooled, you are not wasting your money. I am, what I would call, a medium gamer and I am an ICT Techy and I have installed a few upto date games and i have had no problems with playing them online or normally. The graphics card is more than capable to do what most people want, the Blueray drive is amazing and very simple to connect too a HDTV and use as a player, you have plenty of Ram and sufficiant HDD space, infact Acer have built a great system. All in all, this is a good buy, I don't regret at all in buying this item, infact I think this is a bargin buy. So if you have lots of money and can afford over 1k then buy something better, but if you are like me, then buy this, a few good ways to help with the credit crunch. You can not go wrong!
