Just bought the EEE PC904 HD in white. What a fantastic device! I was looking for something to replace my old Psion organiser (mini pc style) which died a while back. I had software to sync this with windows and it was useful to carry around my dates, schedules, word and excel files. I looked at several PDAs but came around to the idea of a netbook style PC.
For compatibility with windows, I went for the ASUS EEE PC904 with 80G hard drive. It comes with Win XP home and MS Works preloaded. It has anti virrus pre-installed, a web cam and mic array with a mini web video creation package. Win XP was at SP3 level but I have updated the IE browser to V.7. plus other win updates are rolling in.
The device also has 3 USB ports, headphone and mic sockets, VGA, Ethernet and a security lock socket plus an SD card socket (and power inlet jack).
This is such a useful device, it gives you the power of a small PC in something just a bit bigger than an A5 notepad. Even though it is not a speedster, performance is very good. As a bonus, ASUS warranty is 2 years on this device (at the time of writing)
A memory stick is a useful addition as to is a mouse or trackball although the built-in touchpad is quite functional. If you don't already have one, a USB CD/DVD drive should also be on your shopping list.
For around 250 for a PC with pre-installed Windows XP OS plus MS works and other packages, this is a fantastic bit of kit that is ready for work as soon as you get it out of the box! Well done ASUS.

Here is my view of the 904. Firstly I felt I should say the Supersaver free delivery option was excellent, arrived within the 3 day window.
So on to the 904. The first thing that hits you when you open the box is what you get.. a really nice `zipped' slip cover Eee PC embossed, lovely little charger, and a really nice touch, a cleaning cloth, together with a good paperback user manual and recovery disk.
The second thing is the 904 itself. I was really surprised just how well built it is, the glossy white plastic is of a very good quality, as is the keyboard and trackpad. It is in my opinion in a different leaque to my partners MSI Wind clone in this respect.
Firing it up, again another surprise, just how quick it is, especially as the cpu is only 900 MHz. The HDD obviously playing its part here.
The same speed is shown online, the inbuilt wifi appears very quick.
The 8.9 screen, is perfectly adequate, even for myself (I use reading glasses), as the case is the same as Eee PC 1000 10.0 screen a bezel is used to good effect by housing the speakers.
Sound although not that loud is nice and clear, with no anoying buzzing at full volume, which is a plus.
The best bit though is the battery life, at the moment (new battery), I am getting 5 hours! although not as good as the 901 or 1000, I am more than happy!
To acheive this, you need to set xp power options to `max battery' set Asus super hybrid utility to power saving, then take screen brightness to zero (Fn + F5).
Finally in Control Panel > System > Advanced > Settings > Visual Settings, make sure A) `adjust for best porformance' is selected, then apply, and B) again in Visual Settings scroll to bottom of list and select `Use visual styles on windows and buttons' to restore xp `look'.
All in all a great netbook.

This item arrived first class post within 36 hours (within the timeset for the super duper delivery option I nearly took) Thanks amazon!
I wanted a mini laptop for ages but felt uncomfortable typing on the ones I had tried as the keys were too small... Last week I tried the 904 at pc world and thought spot on but 269 was too much to pay... on tuesday night i found it here at amazon for 225 + 5 delivery so ordered it
Upon arrival you need to fully charge it up before use... this took about 2 hours
I got about 2.5 hours out of the battery after doing so using wifi and updating via windows update which must have been processor heavy as the fan was running which it hadn't done earlier or even after
The power brick is well portable and would easily fit in a coat pocket
Fits great on the lap in the car (I bought it as a pda really for poetry and story writing purposes and it suits to a T)
In bed last night I was up late on my chosen forums chatting to folk which was warm and cosy rather than running the heating and siiting at a desk
WiFi works well thick walls in a country cottage and it is still ok
all in all I am very pleased and glad as I WAS gonna splash on a macbook instead so I am 700 better off hehehehe muwhahahahahaha
Oh Dear Spoke to soon after a couple of weeks use I found that the permanent crashes in IE7 were enough to warrant a return to amazon which I did for refund The pages kept hanging and would not close down until about 5 minutes after clicking the X button or close on the bottom bar after a right click
Am most peed off 'cos as you could see above I loved it otherwise.
Got a new camera now with the cash so at least I am happy elsewhere and am saving for a mac book

After my desktop computer died a week or 2 ago, I felt it was time to get a laptop.
After looking at various models, I decided on a mini laptop, as i have no need for playing the latest games or challenging the hardware.
I soon found the ASUS Eee PC 904HD to have the perfect spec I was looking for as I already have external hdd's and this has a comfortable amount of space too.
When it arrived, I unboxed, attached the battery and pressed the power button. After around 20 seconds I was welcomed with the Windows XP set up screen which took very little time to complete.
Once booted into Windows the already installed anti-virus asks for activation and thats it, ready to go!
Connection to the internet was was also instant.
I've had my Eee PC a few days now and the only problem i've had is when I installed avast! anti-virus which kept causing it to crash on start up... DON'T DO IT! Although I later descovered it was probably because it was in power saving mode.
Other than this I can't fault this smart little machine, I would highly recommend to anyone looking to downsize or just another computer to take with them as it would easily fit in a handbag or back pack.
Also before I forget... it comes complete with a protective travel "wallet" style bag, all needed cables, and recovery disc.

This really is a cute-looking little machine - the price is great(258 at time of writing), and being a non-techie I was pleased that it runs Windows (and XP too - I prefer it to Vista).
It's perfect for surfing the internet on the move, and it's fast enough to cope with any demands that might ensue. If you want to use it as a conventional laptop, you'll need to factor in the price of an external DVD/CD rewriter drive: Slimline USB External Dual Layer DVD+-RW drive. Reads and writes both CD & DVD media. Slim and portable drive for laptop. Slim and portable drive for laptop, a mini optical mouse (the touchpad really is a last resort, and as they're so cheap, why not):USB Mini Optical Retractable Mouse 800dpi 3 Button Scroll Silver Black Wired ideal for Laptop / PC ideal for Laptop / PC, a wireless router Netgear WGR614UK Wireless 54G Cable Router, a 2GB memory card for increased performance Kingston 2GB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 SODIMMand perhaps a nicer case (one comes provided, but it's more like a toiletries zip-bag; no protection against impacts) this is a small problem at the time of writing this, as the Asus 904 is relatively new, and I can't find a case that fits it - I bought a case designed for the Asus 900, which is a smaller machine. I'm hoping that the Asus 1000 shares the same dimensions. UPDATE: it doesn't - the 904 is an inch or so smaller; according to ASUS, it won't be long before manufacturers catch up, but for the moment I'm stuck with the zip-bag. This may be a slight minus point for some buyers.
The 904 is slightly larger than some of its stablemates; it's still small enough to be fantastically portable but manages to have an 8.9" screen so that you don't need a magnifying glass to read the web pages you browse.
it was also VERY easy to set up - all I had to do was turn it on. Ideal for non-techies, parents and grandparents who want a machine that's simple to use, easy to set up, and doesn't take up much space. The amount of space that I've gained in the living room now that the computer desk has gone is another bonus!
Wholeheartedly recommended.
