EXCELLENT November 10, 2008 I. S. Thompson 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Acer Aspire 8920G Laptop Notebook, Intel Core 2 Duo T5750, 2.0GHz, 18.4" TFT, 4GB Memory, 320GB Hard-drive, DVDRW, Dedicated Graphics Nvidia GeForce 9500M GS, Blu Ray, Integrated Web Cam, Blue tooth, WiFi, Finger Print Reader, Vista Home Premium
I was looking for a new laptop, I must admit I did not really want to shell out 900, but this laptop was well worth it.
The screen is excellent, blueray movies show it is outstanding capabilities. I have also used it for work, being a widescreen you can see multiple documents at once. Using it with MS Project really showed how width matters since you could easily read Gantt chart entries.
Despite its size I have easily lugged it between the office and home, the biggest problem is finding a case to fit it (Eastpac cooper just fits).
The processor seems fast enought to me, it easily handles programmes like AutoCad which can be a big drain on the systems processing power.
My only winge would be all the preloaded dross that comes with it, remove it ASAP.
If you want a large screen multi-purpose, multi-media laptop BUY THIS ONE.
If you are thinking of buy this laptop, then do it! You wont regret it! October 10, 2008 Cj Mcgill (Bletchley, Bucks.) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was bought this laptop as a present earlier this year to play World of Warcraft on and we picked this as it had the biggest screen we could find that wasnt overdoing it. The screen is excellent, its great to be able to play Blu rays on it and the keyboard is really nice to use.
The 5.1 surround is a real bonus too. It is very clear and is more than loud enough to watch a film on and feel like you are in the action.
I cannot rate this laptop highly enough. As the title says if you are thikng of buying this laptop, then just do it. You won't regret it!
Flawed design but good value for 899 July 12, 2008 Bletch UK 7 out of 24 found this review helpful
This was my first laptop - Kind of an impulse buy. I found the 18.4" screen very tempting as I would be using it primarily for Photoshop work. Everything else read okay on paper too - 4gb Ram, 2x160gb HDDs, Blu Ray reader, dedicated modern GFX card. The only weak(?) link in the chain was the so so processor, a T5700. Newer pocessors were available, but at cost. So I settled on this 899.99 model.
Disapointment set in a few hours after using it.
The screen is simply too small for serious photoshop work, even when working with small images, in my case, mobile wallpapers/themes (320x240).
The laptop came with useless trial software all of which took a while to uninstall.
The Glossy screen was also not to my liking.
I found the blue power on light distracting - the damn thing not only surrounds the button, it also makes it's way back towards the LCD screen.
Would have prefered a larger keyboard, they should have ditched the CineDash Media Console (more lights).
The dvd drive tray is flimsey - pressing a dvd into the tray without holding the tray bottom will probably lead to a tray snap.
Good points? I'll think of some whilst writing more bad ones!
You'll need to shell out on a large laptop bag - You'll find one on Amazon 'Targus XXL' (Seem to have Shot up in price! Now 62, I paid 35). Dell also make a similar bag but they cost even more.
I sold my laptop after 5 weeks. Think I might have expected too much. As I said at the start, it was an impulse buy. I've gone back to my old desktop for design work, and am currently saving for another - with large TFT! :)
Great Laptop With a BIG Screen May 17, 2008 W. Nicholls (U.K) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
I waited a long time for this laptop to become available & im glad i waited. With 4gb of ram, an impressive 320gb hard drive & a huge 18.4 inch screen this laptop is value for money. Its not that portable due to its size & weight but i did not buy it for that. Its just for the house. Comes with a lot of bloatware software which i deleted as its not needed and just takes up system resources. The Acer CineDash Media Console on the left-hand side of the keyboard looks great but the finger control is not sensitive enough but still looks good. Especially when you show people the control and it all lights up. Also it has a Samsung LCD TV type casing which attracts dust and means you have to be a little careful when giving it a wipe as it will show those nasty micro scratch marks after a while. Apart from that its a great laptop.
