This is a must for all lovers of Schubert leider - the sheer beauty of the voice, the sheen and the phrasing are marvelous, almost perfection. His feeling for Schubert is clear and translates as well now, despite the years. I still cannot find a performer to surpass Mr. Schiotz. I cannot recommend this album highly enough despite the lighter pieces at the end of the CD. I understand in professional circles he is still considered the best Schubert leider singer. I hope everyone reading will test the examples and see for themselves. An opportunity not to be missed.

Having already bought number 2 in the Aksel Schioltz series I had to rush to buy more Schubert performed by this remarkable man. His voice surrounds one with honey and bittersweet tenderness. Schubert could only have approved. I have never heard such beauty brought into Schubert songs despite the many recordings.There are variations in the same songs on volume 2 and 4 presumably due to his throat problems, but there is no poor performance of any. Mr. Schioltz is reputed to be the finest Schubert leider singer. I can accept this.I can only say buy and luxuriate in Aksel Schiotz - and - get out the tissues.
