The God Fathers Of Electronic Music's Greatest Work July 29, 2001 wormo@tesco.net (Rochdale, Gr Manchester) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Yes you may love Dance music, but if this german Band had not twiddled with their Electronic Synths that they fabricated themselves the genres of Dance, Hip hop and Pop would not sound quite like they do. The German Quartet did and continue to (Expo 2000) produce many great works, such as Tour De France and the Robots and who could forget Afrika Bambabata and the soul sonic crew sampling 'Trans Euro Express'. Autobahn was dubbed as self indulgent and too long for radio (22.42 mins for the full version). The truth is those critics were short sighted. Like all great bands there music has stood the test of time, Listen to any of it and it is as fresh today as it ever was. Autobahn is a reference to the long winding motorways in germany (the literal meaning is of no concisquence) and the title track is a journey along one! This EP is a must for all those who like or think they know about Electronic Music. Think of this as a purchase that will enrich your life!!
Haunting and mesmerising February 14, 2001 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Kraftwerk are one of the most innovative bands of the last 50 years. This album, their breakthrough, encompasses fascinating sounds and often beautiful noises. The first track is over 20 minutes long - an epic expression of sound which works best listening to it on headphones in a car going along one of those huge motorways as described in the title. An album often overlooked and a perfect alternative to today's pointless drivel. The name means 'power station', incidentally.
