A few gems amidst a collection of nondescript beats. April 29, 2001 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is by all accounts a poor effort in terms of dance music collections. There are far too many 'Filler' type tracks on this disc. The CDs totally lack direction in terms of musical content and how the tunes have been stuck together. When a DJ creates a set he should try and play with the listener's feelings giving the compilation a feeling of 'peaks' and 'lows'. Alas this compilation seems to stick to the middle of the road for the majority of the trip. The way the compilation ends is a bit of mystery to me, as it seems to finish on a bit of a low note. 'Citizen Caned - The Journey' is by itself a fantastic track, but is more suited as the calm before the storm, before hell is unleashed. Used in this way, the compilation goes out more with a whimper than a bang. There are some good points. As always, Judge Jules cannot be faulted for his mixing ability even though his creativity leaves something to be desired in this particular case. Judge Jules redeems himself by not being afraid to play different styles of music, something that many others are afraid to do. Mista Jones
An equilibrium of quality and class April 16, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well what can I say? The Judge has surely lived up to his reputation as one of the best DJs the world has to offer. With a blend of tantilising house, a hint of break beat and some euphoric spinners, Jules has done it again. He has been quiet on the compilations of late, but he returns with a lucrative flavour. A must have for all clubbers.
Phat Tunes! April 15, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is truly a great album by the DJ of the moment, the Judge has taken the best dance album crown away from "Resident:Two years of Oakenfold at Cream". This album shows a good mixture of styles, but without any direction. The tunes he's chosen have let him off, he just had to put in "Warrior" and "Star69" otherwise this album would lack those extra special tunes that keep us dancing. My personal favourite is "Needle Damage", its one of those tracks that lifts you to another level before the huge tune. WELL DONE JUDGE! JUDGE FOR YOURSELF, BUY THIS NOW!
The Judge Definitely WONT Budge! April 10, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the pure spectacle of music hedonism that we have come to excpect from the Judge. Many people will recognise most of the pure tunes from this album if they have listened to any of his live sets! Songs like Warrior and The Red Alien are examples of easy reminiscence, and are for the easy, yet tough crowd. However, this is contrasted by hard house hitters such as Baguette by Picotto and Hootin Harry by Nigel Gee. A true mixture of a Friday night with Jules, as well as a Monday morning listening to a typical Judge Jules CD. A genuine touch of class - long live Judge Jules
DIFFERENT CLASS April 9, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Exactly what every clubber from around the country has been craving for months. This compilation conveys perfectly what a night out with the Judge on the decks is all about. CD1 contains the best deep, pounding tunes of the moment while CD2 is a blend of upbeat house and spine tingling trance. It's a must if you want to remember that fantastic night you had or if not, listening to this in your room will soon get your heart racing just as well. Judge for yourself.
