5 out of 5 stars a cracking good mix - no cheese   September 27, 2006

Love this mix, very funky, mellow cool prog house. Not a single duff track, and smoooooooth as silk. Very nice indeed - his best (without Sasha natch). Recommend.

3 out of 5 stars A bit of a let down!   August 31, 2006

Now I have listened to a lot of Mr digweeds work in the past from, communication to the famous renaissance masters part one, but I'm afraid to say that on this one occasion the masterful DJ has let me down with his latest "Transitions" CD. There was just not enough get up & go about the style of the tracks that he has chosen, & also the order in witch he has put them in are a bit disorganized. To sum it up most of the new "Transitions" bored me silly, but note I am not for one minute referring to Mr digweed himself as he is still & always will be a fantastic DJ!

4 out of 5 stars Just Keep Listening To It!   June 30, 2006

John has been my fav DJ now for a number of years. I used to see him DJ every month at Bedrock and sometimes in between at other clubs, so my expectations of his album releases are always high. This can sometimes pose as a bit of a problem, as John's previous albums really have set the benchmark for other DJ's to live up to and himself to maintain. They've also stood up to the toughest test of all - the test of time (his older mixes still sound fantastic today).

Anyway, back to Transitions. John released a sample on his Podcast a week prior to the release, which really got the juices flowing. I was expecting nothing but the best. Unfortunately I have to say I was left feeling a little disappointed after my first listen. Undeterred from my initial listen, I did what any forgiving fan would do and gave it another go. And another. And another. This really is a good album, but be warned - it takes a few listens to appreciate it. Transitions is what I would refer to as a 'grower' of a mix. The more you listen to it, the better it gets but by John's high standards it doesn't get my top marks.

5 out of 5 stars What we've been waiting for   June 22, 2006

Initially, there was a lot of negativity regarding John's approach on his Fabric release of last year. The track selection being of a more accessible-dare I say initially
disappointingly-upfront mainstreamy house style. But after a couple of listens you got it.
John Digweed is at the pinnacle of dance music production, remixing, and D.Jing and has been for the last 10 years, so it's safe to say that if he spots a change in the way things are progressing, he will jump aboard and see what he can add to the mix. Hence Fabric 20. A complete change from the Diggers norm, and rightly so. It's bloody excellent.

So now he has done it again with Transitions.
Best adjective ; Bleep.

This is far, far different from the Fabric mix, much more John Digweed. This IS John Digweed.

Very techy, very dark, very underground. This is as far as I'm concerned the sound he has been looking for over the last 5 years or so. It just suits his mixing style perfectally.
Highlights; Feelin' from Every. The excellent Neontrance by Tigerskin to Knights of Columbus with the 'up there ' On Spec. Grand finale from Paul Kalkbrenner with the heavy, heavy Gebrunn Gebrunn. Also featured recently on James Holden's wonderful At the Controls release. I have to say this is the gripe. The track doesn't flow correctly for this mix, but for me, the fact that it's brilliant more than compensates for this. But to be fair, Holden makes far greater use of it.

In my eyes (ears), John Digweed has finally found what he, hell! we, have been searching for. This is WELL worth the wait.
Go on Diggers!!!

4 out of 5 stars Quality listening   June 10, 2006

You need to listen to this a few times before you fully appreciate it. Like most things worth listening to, its not immediately obvious. Its a real mixture of deep driving techno/house, deep phat synth sounds, trancey in places, industrial in places, beautifully atmospheric in places, lots of little poppy electro sounds scattered throughout providing interesting detail ... this is not dark ... its uplifting. This may well be my summer cd ... its a feel good cd - with an edge - flawlessly mixed as ever. Top notch!
