1 out of 5 stars Wrong Choice   July 13, 2008

Am I missing something here? Some of these tunes are described as 'classics'. Classic as described in the Oxford English dictionary is: 'having a high quality that is recognized and unquestioned'. Therefore such terminology should be used thoughtfully and sparingly. To me the word 'classic' should be as far from this album as I am to the nearest Quasar (about 10 billion lightyears away or so). Just because the tracks were created a few years back and may have had some tenuous musical influence doesn't qualify them as 'classics'. They need to have had a significant impact on influencing later musical direction and / or adored by many people. The tracks range from the early eighties to the mid nineties. Admittedly I wasn't into dance music in the eighties & early nineties mainly just chart stuff (too young to go to clubs) but surely there was much better offerings than this tripe. Maybe I can understand somebody liking this if they wore rose tinted headphones remembering the first swamp donkey they groped but other than that I've come to the conclusion that to call any one of these tunes a 'classic', nostalgia isn't what it used to be. Only one of these tracks managed to avoid my recycle bin.

You can see where John has got his influences from. This music does reflect the style John plays now.
Lots of melody and tight bass lines, all uplifting stuff.
Sounds like sets John would play in the 90s.

If you like John's early stuff then this is for you. Not a bad track in the album.

5 out of 5 stars Not at first what you would expect form Digweed   October 2, 2005

I love this album it has a real feelgood aura. Although at first you wonder what on earth Digweed is up to selecting such tunes, after listening to it for awhile you realise they underpin his style. The album is after all, his 'choice' of tunes which have influenced him. It is difficult to pick any favourite tracks, in keeping with his style Digweed has put together a very complimentary selection. I like this as you can play it and appreciate the whole without yearning for any particular track. If you decide to buy then don't expect something which reflects Digweed today but be prepared to be pleasantly challenged.
