Layered Sounds Indeed March 26, 2004 dimitriis 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Bedrock needs no introduction! John Digweed compiles (does not mix) the first layer of this compilation. Although the mixing has been performed digitally, the arrangement of tracks is truly unique. Digweed has managed to create a natural flow of idyllic downtempo and ambient sounds that captivate the listener instantly. Shmuel Flash's "Chilling Moments", also appeared in Cattaneo's "South America" (only in a faster version) is a fantastic track and probably my favourite in this disc. The classic "Dust" by Pole Folder & CP is finely reworked. Actually, all tracks in the first layer are brilliant. Special mention goes to "Innerspace" by James Holden's Mainline project and "Walking On Fire" by Evolution. Superb tracks. 5/5The second layer concentrates on the dancefloor anthems that Bedrock has released recently. The mixing has been executed seamlessly by Phil Thompson, who under his Moonface moniker, has produced great tracks included in Digweed's GU014 Hong Kong and Pappa's NuBreed. "All I Know" by Morgan Page is a sweet vocal anthem. Moving to the darker "Chutney" remixed by Phil Thompson himself the mix acquires a more techy feel to it. Only released a few months ago, "Tonite" with the vocals of Ursula Rucker is an engaging progressive tune... and the mix gets only better thereafter. Who can forget the awesome opening track from Digweed's GU006, "Imagine" by Fortunato & Montressor, tweaked here by Chris Fortier? The peak of this mix has to be the Steiger remix of "The Hunter". Thompson brings his mix to an end by dropping Steiger's eerie yet blissful "Postcard From The Edge" followed by the immaculate synths of "Emerald". 4/5
An trip into electronic sounds February 24, 2004 SeLL_SOaP (Athens - GREECE) I was used by J. Digweed to listen to some special dark progressive and dancing music. But the first cd... u ll be amazed!!! Never heard Digweed to play downtempo electronic trax and i think he does it super. I mean the trax are very strange in sound, its electro that could be the background of a space movie. Its a perfect electronic trip. U will feel like being inside a computer and youre travelling on a rollercoaster through the circuits. Amazing... Now the second cd, starts exactly with the style of the first but u will feel that the trip ended and its time to hit the dancefloor. So, P. Thomson takes the lead and shares with us the sounds of Bedrock (one of the most YET original clubs in experimenting with fresh music)although these sounds are very strange even for Berock, i mean the trax are awesome, its something between progressive and electro with a touch of trance. Trully dark beats that again trip u while dancing. Dont miss this cd, its rare to find one published by big companies or clubs and listen to such good music, not intended for the maases.
This album is simply fantastic February 9, 2004 James O. Croft (London) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I've not heard John Digweed play down tempo tunes before, but this album is fantastic. Some absolutely sublime tunes, fantastic production and with some very clever samples that remind you of tunes from clubbing heydays 10 years ago. Best album I've bought this year.
