I bought this album about 2 years ago and out of the blue decided to listen to it on my walk into work this morning and was curios what other people thought of it. I'm an enormous Infected Mushroom fan and have tried desperately to hoard everything they've ever done which leaves my music collection a mess of remixes and miss named tracks etc. As time's gone on, these guys seem to have produced more and more "hit or miss" type albums, a great tunes and a few frankly dull and cheesy ones. Unfortunately Converting Vegetarians falls into the later category.
I really appreciate the experimentalism of the second disc. All very different tracks but with the same pervasive Infected Mushroom feel that has appeared in everything they have ever produced. The Pletzurra is definitely my favourite ending with an unexpected Banjo solo, just the sought of ingenuity I love about these guys. The first disc however seems to be a bit of a back step, a devolution into Trance from the more elegant and sophisticated PsyTrance.
In short, this album is well worth a listen now and then when you want something obscure (other Mushroom albums fill the need for something trippy a whole lot better). But I'd collect the rest of their back catalogue first and leave this one till last.
Amazing album, the leading edge of electronic music! May 31, 2007 Matthew Sharf (Toronto, CAN) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I can't stress it enough. This album is genius. The first CD has some great tracks on it...Semi Nice, Echonomix, and some others. Where Infected Mushroom really excels is in there experimental music. Listening to "Dancing with Kadafi" from B.P. Empire is what got me into their experimental style, I don't find their trance stuff too itneresting. Dancing with Kadafi is a masterpiece, and Converting Vegetarians followed up with that concept on their second CD. The opening track "Converting Vegetarians" is probably the best on the album with a unique lyrical chorus. Add a couple more good ones...Elation Station is a sort of ambient, slower tune, I like it alot. Some of the others are really out there but I mean its all good listening.
The best thing to do with their albums is let them play out start to finish and let it really take you in. It's a trip is all I have to say. Check out their new one, Vicious Delicious!
Majestic and spectacular July 12, 2006 Mr. J. M. Bradley (Australia, NSW) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Ive never bothered to write a review before but i belive that this album, this band deserves one. I'm more a fan of rock music than trance but as soon as i heard Infected Mushroom (IM) i was blown away. The first c.d on this album is a briliant bit of psy trance really good to dance to at raves and partys, then the second c.d is just nuts. From the first song on the second c.d 'converting vegetarians' the listerner imediatley notices a change in the IM style of music; they put away the fast trancey bass and rythem and instead incoperate what i can only describe as acid converted into music. I have played this song to many of my friends who were dubious about them and they were converted straight away, due to the technical brilliance of the bass, rythem and almost hypnotic atmosphere it projects. Also included in the second c.d are a few songs that arn't really psy trancy at all yet are really beautifull songs such as 'i wish' and 'blink' - in my humble opinion its got it all. And that my fellow friends is just the tip of the iceberg, if you like psy trance / tripping out to music this c.d would be a worthy buy as it blends all aspects of this genre and then adds more.... if you like this and deciede to buy it then also check out Skazi's remix of 'i wish' which is another superb song off this album. Well i hope you find this usefull and prehaps entertaining? Peace Out
incredible sonics! June 3, 2006 Cherian Nikhil Th (London, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Converting Vegetarians was my intro to Infected Mushroom. I heard some Infected being played at a party and was blown away. i was never into trance.. i'm more of a rocker and also like some IDM and ambient electronica.. listening to Infected Mushroom is like an acid trip without the acid.. great to dance to or to just listen to on headphones for the great sonics.. the second cd is great too.. at first i liked it better cos it was more experimental. but i have to admit that the trance cd gets more plays these days. if you're new to psy trance, this or Shpongle's "Are you Shpongled?" are the cd's to get...
