I'm infected July 29, 2008 M. Torr (Southampton, UK) I bought this CD a few months ago and at first I didn't give it a chance. I now realise this was because it is only really the second album in this genre that I've heard, and the first was Shpongle's Tales Of The Inexpressible, so that was one hell of a tough act to follow, to say the least.
Now that I've given it a few more playings, boy has it grown on me! I enjoy many types of music, and in this case I think my enjoyment derives from the intricacies of the sonic textures, and the way they are artfully controlled throughout each track. It is especially good if you listen on headphones, actually - in fact, I've been doing just that at work. I write software, and sometimes it's really hard to focus properly when there is noise in the office. So I pop the cans on and dial up the mushroom... and work at twice my normal speed! Who needs drugs? :)
Best track is definitely "Dracul". There are some awesome sound effects in there.
Infected bobbins. January 17, 2008 jonny comet (GB) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
After reading all these excellent reviews for this CD it seemed to be pretty much what I am looking for in music right now. I listened hard to it a few times and I'm sad to say I found it simply annoying.
Why? Well the way the tunes cling on to a guitar phrase, and not a particularly good one, over and over with the rather boring dumph dumph dumph dumph of synthasised drums to a 4/4 rhythum right the way through had me wanting more invention, intensity and tension .
It is all too predictable and reminiscent of late 80's techno without adding to it in any significant way. Like similar Goa trance stuff (of which there are some similarities here) I felt like a tourist being shown a cliche rather than experiancing anything real.
Certainly I know it is slickly produced and features some very fiddly bits (cheifly I suppose to try and massage some life into it) but there is a lack of atmosphere that say FSOL or the Orb would have. In the end its all just a bit naff really, so much so that I dont want it sat in my collection in case it infects anything next to it.
I genuinly feel sorry to have rained a bit on your parade but had I have listened to it first I certainly would not wasted my hard-earned on this.

Okay let me start with telling you this album is fantastic. buy it. pay twice what amazon is charging you for it. seriously.
ile now do a track by track thing cos i like reading album reviews with these.
bust a move ***** this is an amazing song and a great start..flawless this is one of those songs that cant be improved. just over done.
None of this is real ***** this is one of my personal favorites of this album and in the top three of infected mushroom overall.. this really mellowed out yet just pushing at tension enough to make you move. listening to this song is really euphoric and a very good use of voice. you can really feel the old punk influences in this aswell.
Sailing in the sea of mushroom **** a weak point in the album for me personally. but a weak point in a fortress still doesnt mean you can hit through it with your fists this is a really great trance song even if it isnt as good as the others. put it this way: everything else on this album is a masterpeice this is just great. oh although i really do like the subtle effect of drowning at the end.
The Shen ***** recently a freind very meanly told me who the robot god like voice in the middle of this sounds like and its totally ruined the voice for me (i wont do the same to you). but before he said that i really loved that part and the the rest of this song is just awe inspiringly good.
Disco mushroom ***** an amazing tune for trust me it stays in your head for bloody days.
Dracul ***** i really cannot stress those five stars enough this is my favorite infected mushroom song ever its utter genius its dark and epic and still gives me goosebumps. you have to hear this song. this is worth the price of the album alone.
Nothing comes easy **** this is really subtelly an amazing track it hides a really fantastic tune under huge lashings of infected mushroom stylee trance and only shows its face at the right times.
mush mushi ***** very faced pace and an amazing track if you were making someone an infected mushroom mixed cd this would be on it
The missed symphony ***** i always imagined this track was intended to round up the album in one epic ever changing sound and it really does this well it has absolutely amazing bits in it its like the encore to the whole of the above and it doesnt fall short of doing it justice.
Something from outer space! December 19, 2006 Mr. J. S. Murphy (London, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is some really great crazy trance going on right here, truly out of this 'world' with some superb beats. It's nice and pacey and at the same time psychadelic, definately something to get blasted to with the lights off!
If you love Eat static, BT, or Ozrics techno... June 17, 2006 A. P. Deeks (England, bury st edmunds) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is in class of its own!
I made a point of every 2 weeks buying a 5 star CD, in different genres of electronica. And so i came across this, (and the brilliant Ulrich Schnauss two weeks ago..chillout electronica).
i have an excellent hifi setup, and this is the best sounding demos for it in any genre,(500 watts RMS, monoblocked pre/power combo, with tubed CD player) if you love psychadelic trance, of mental gymnastic proportions this will deliver. So beautifully crafted, constructed and executed. Im now going to stock up on some more infected mushroom.
I have loved eat static, and BT for their ability to make great sounding hifi killing aural masterpeices. Infected mushroom, is in this special genre. I will admit, I have no great knowledge of most trance music, but i love this melodic, well constructed, ever evolving trance, if you know of anything that rivals this type of music, (with the exception of Spongle), I like even the Drum and bass forays of Eat statics, "Science of the gods", so anything.
