Destroyed. September 1, 2007 Mr. M. A. Flanagan (Clebeland, UK) There are few tracks on this album which really capture your Kandimagination. Namely Gav McCalls tune is a beauty, as is the Hot 22 material. Other than that, a fringe effort to what used to be a colossal label.
Ministry Of Sound has caused a thick layer of dust to form on those glittery balls we all used to love.
Disco Heaven Losing Its Sparkle May 15, 2006 I. Doran (Ireland) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Every Hed Kandi fan, like myself, loves Disco Heaven. What's not to like about sparkling, funky and disco-flavoured House music. As Mark Doyle used to describe it: "Music with Balls"
However, this Disco Heaven release was slightly disappointing. On disc one there are only a handful of tracks that I would class to be worthy of Disco Heaven status. Namely, "Rise Up" by Sunkids, "Jealousy" by Martin Solveig and "We Got Love" by Soulflava. I felt shortchanged on disc one and was hoping disc two was an improvement.
Disc two began promising with the amazing "Fade" by Solu Music. It's been stuck in my head all week!! Again there were some really good tracks from Michelle Weeks (which includes a cheeky riff from Crystal Waters' "Gyspy Woman"), Haji & Emanuel and Hott 22. Things went horribly wrong towards the end of the collection.
Firstly, heads should have rolled for the inclusion of that Beatfreakz track. It's AWFUL!!! Secondly, the collection ended on a Twisted Disco note. Both tracks from Mister T & Freemasons are great tracks but did not fit well on this album at all.
So after first listen, I was left slightly confused and short-changed. Get it right next time please!
A disgruntled Kandi Fan
Not So Sweet May 12, 2006 Rick H (Brighton, UK) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
EDIT - I've listened more to the disc and its bad news I'm afraid - this album has failed to impress me any further! I think my Hed Kandi days are over - thats for the laughs and the music guys but this label is now dead!!
Well, Mr Doyle has upped sticks and is now pushing his Tokyo series (and even though this isn't a review for them, you gotta try both out!!). With the last Twisted Disco not quite hitting that standard that we've come to expect from Hed Kandi, I was a little worried about the latest Disco Heaven (my favourite alongside Twisted in the HK genre). So, were my worries founded or not? Both yes and no. I still think that the new Hed Kandi albums are far too commercial (once HK led the way and others followed but not so anymore). Disc 1 kicks of with 2 excellent remixes but they are of highly commercial tracks. But it and Disc 2 settle down to some rather good mixes of old favs and some thumping good 'hands in the air' feel good tunes. I shall play this one over the Summer but I've no doubt that my Hed Kandi buying days are now probably over. I just wish that the HK team realise that they aren't a funky version of "Now Thats What I Call Greatest Hits 27 Part 2" and stick to the funkier and more exclusive tracks that us hard-core clubbers love, need and live our lives to.
Lost Its Touch! May 8, 2006 Maxwell Silver (Marbella, Spain) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Every year i look forward to the release of Disco Heaven. Since it hit the shelves in 2002 ive been hooked. It always seems to bring out the best in pure funky house music. Nothing commercial involved and nothing too cheesy either. Crisp, Cool and Camp is how i've always described the Heaven series. However this compilation is far from that of its pre-releases. Ok, maybe not far but a long way from the Doyle days. Only 4 tracks really stood out for me on this compilation. The rest are old, dated and aren't really suited for this compilation. (Hi Motive remix on the freemasons - electro riffs and a deep base, more suited for twisted disco!!) Ive been a loyal Kandi fan since it begun on Jazz Fm all these years ago. After hearing that Doyle left last year I thought it wouldnt change Kandi's style. I was very wrong. Ive compared each compilation to its previous one the year before. Disco Kandi, Disco Heaven, Nu Cool and even its World Series were all better last year and years before that than its latest release. Joining Ministry was great from a business point of view, from a musical one, worst decision ever made!
Kandi Sparkling magic May 2, 2006 P. D. Shapley 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
Pure hands in the air Kandi magic at its best!!! Some current classics like Mish Mash (superb rework by seamus haji) - and Solu Music's Fade, and future some stormers as well - classy - glizty funky mix of US garage and Funky vocal house at its best!! Get your mirrorballs round that!
