Amazon.co.uk Review Designed for lazy afternoon listening and balmy summer evenings, Beach House 2 features a gloriously sunny selection of deep house gems. The follow-up to one of 2000's most intelligent house compilations, it hits all the right notes thanks to a fresh and funky mix of laidback instrumentals, gently uplifting vocal numbers and little-known club bombs. Despite a track-listing light on populist anthems (deep house is hardly the most commercial of genres), there's plenty here to appeal to both connoisseurs and deep house virgins. Serious househeads will love the inclusion of productions by West Coast luminaries Miguel Migs, Aquanote, Dubtribe Soundsystem and Andy Caldwell, while first-timers can sing along to alternative anthems by King Britt, Soulstice and Axus. High on jazzy guitar licks and low on cheesy riffs, Beach House 2 just oozes deep, intelligent house music from every sweaty, glistening pore--just beautiful. --Matt Anniss

completey massively brilliant!! December 30, 2005 R i V E M one word: rhythm plate = 5 stars alone!! buy it for this ibiza anthem, you will NOT be dissappointed. seriously!
Absolutely Gorgeous December 7, 2004 G. M. Lester (London) The first CD on the album on its own merits the 5 stars I'm giving this CD. It's filled with the most beautifully produced and arranged series of deep, soulful house tunes, perfect for those Summer sunsets on some sun-drenched island in the Med Sea or Pacific Ocean, or even your own back garden!!Put simply, there has never been a Beach House since which, in my view, contains the same outstanding quality of tracks like 'In the Sand' by Panyard, 'Para Ti' by Melena or, my own personal favourite; 'Rocketta Al Sol' by Los Ladrones. As for the second CD, there's plenty of tunes in there for those that prefer the deep emphasis on house, rather than soulful (e.g. compare 'Rely On Me' and 'Mi Destino', both tracks by Miguel Migs and you'll see what I mean) On the whole, top class!!
The Best Beach House June 7, 2004 R. Pieters (Harlow Essex) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I left it late to purchase Beach House 2 not beeing to keen on the first instalment of the series which seemed to some how loose direction. This collection is a perfect combination for chilling and grooving away those balmy summer days, and stands head and shoulders above all other Beach House collections which have fallen in to a more electronich pop trip hop lighter mould. This collection, however is deep soulful house with jazzy and latin grooves , what more could you ask for on a summer selection latin and jazzy flavoured disc 1 includes latin outfits Delata and Los Ladrones remixed, Soulstice and Karen Ramirez, another mix of Bebel Gilberto's Sem Contencao. Disc 2 is deep house grooves with Moments of Soul , Stephanie Cook and Petalpusher being my favourites on the laid back house grooves. I must stress that this album seems to feature some of the most soulful vocals I've heard on a Hed Kandi album and it's a long way from Kandi's current Twisted experience of hanging out with the likes of Narcotic Thrust. Beach House 2 in my Books is the number 1 Hed Kandi album and I have about 20 Hed Kandi albums.
More tasty beach house sounds November 21, 2002 Richard Diaz 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Here's the template for every Hed Kandi compilation so far. Package 22 to 24 full-length, unmixed tracks with a theme, sorted as a dozen fillers, six winners, and six skippers. Beach House 1 bucked that trend with a broader than expected slice of Balearic vibes, deep house (nabbing huge chunks of the Naked Music label catalog) and sharp instrumentals, standing as their best release and biggest seller to date. Beach House 2 features all the sun-soaked attitude of the first, but with a much more narrow palette of cuts. Take sprightly percussion, cooing woman, dab of surf spray, slab it on vinyl, repeat continuously. Malena "Para Ti" practically shoves a cocktail in your hand, while Karen Ramirez and Kevin Yost sway 'til dusk with "Looking For Love." Miguel Migs, Soulstice, and A:xus all deliver, with Dubtribe Sound System's luminescent epic "Do It Now" drifting away the night. Well and good, just needing more variety to command poolside attention. Yet for those splashing about or too sun-fried to care, this still delivers enough moments to consider.
As Good As It Gets February 2, 2002 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Listening to any of the "Hed Kandi" albums, or other similar labels and CD's for that matter (such as Naked Music, Defected, and Slip N slide...) one wonders why this genre is rarely at the top of any commercial dance charts. Maybe it's best to keep that way; for those discerning, mature and laid-back clubbers. This album is even better than its magnificent predecessor. My favourites on CD1 are Panyard - In the Sand, Kevin Yost's "lookinf for love" version, Rythm Plate - Breathe again and the wonderful remix of the Brazilian Jazz singer, Bebel Gilberto. On CD2, A:xus, Fac 15 and Physics -7am sessions all stand out. But in fact, all the tracks are blissful, an allegory to that original hippie Ibiza spirit, that seems to have almost been washed away from the white island by the waves of more massified hard-house and techno rubbish.
