my greatest impulse buy, my favourite album. November 10, 2004 DS4 (London, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
it's quite a statement to say this is my favourite album because soon enough something will take its place. i bought it when i was 18 and now i am 23, i can still play this CD and listen to it all the way through without flicking. it was the first time i had properly heard deep house. but when first hearing the title track 'Children We Were' in a record store not knowing where the sweeping synths were going, it suddenly hit me in the soul when the kick drops in and begins the sonic journey. one could possibly think that buying this would lead to an album of 4/4 dance music but it's more thought out. it is packed full of harmonies and unexpectedly fluid and well formed vocal melodies most notably on the song 'Beautiful Day' and the chopped up rhythm of 'Eyes of a Child' which also has beautiful keyboard intro. 'Story Telling Giants' gets back to the classic deep house formula with a warm bassline and twin repeating chords. tripowski has it down to a tee, it is definately afterclub, but also, late night driving, beach and winter around a fire. finest, no cheese late nineties atmospherically harmonic deep house. if its your thing its your thing, i am not preaching.
so delicious... October 11, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had this album for a few years now and it's one I keep going back to. It manages to combine smooth chilled deep house with geniune emotion and yet somehow stay totally cheese free. It's an excellent accompaniment to post club relaxing in a warm and snug place, and can be guaranteed to cheer and comfort. Extremely highly recommended if you like house of any kind.
