Well, based on the other great reviews I just purchased this item and set it up with eager anticipation.
What a disappointment!
It feels and looks quite well built, everything worked straight out the box and even the remote works perfectly. The problem is with the sound. It's certainly got punch, but it's also lost quality. I'm playing classical music which I know sounds absolutely beautiful on the Bose...and it sounds maddeningly ordinary and dull on this. I tried to improve things by adjusting the treble / base but no matter how I set these the result was wrong.
Also, it sounds mono, which I had never noticed or even thought about when listening on my mates Bose Ipod dock.
Probably great for a kid's bedroom but no good if you want to really enjoy the music.

Having trawled the high street to find a better sound quality than my first set of cheap and cheerful speakers, I was pleasantly surprised and very impressed with the Altec Lansing. Given the price, you get a lot of speaker for your money. With adjustable bass and treble and other functions available using the remote, I am in ipod heaven. The sound is absolutely fantastic. It is made to house the dock adaptor I got with my iPod Classic and therefore sits perfectly. My son now wants one for his birthday, so have already bought another one ready. I just wish I had bought one sooner!

I subscribe to the Which comsumer web site.
The Which web site has never let me down.
This was one of the best buys as recommended by Which so I knew
I wouldn't be disappointed.
What I didn't expect was something so fantastic.
The volume is quite remarkable! Clear and fills the room.
The remote works really well with options to adjust Bass an treble as well as change tracks.
Recommended!!!!

This excellent iPod dock has surpassed all my expectations. There is no doubt it out performs competitor products (Bose, Apple HiFi) having heard these other devices. Altec Lansing have always been in the speaker business and this becomes very clear with this product. Although not high end Hi-Fi, it fills the room with excellent sound and has the added advantage over the competition in that there is very neat bass and treble adjustment with clever hidden level indicators. My taste in music is eclectic, and I find this system faithfully reproduces music right across all genres of music. I definitely recommend this product over the competition, with the added bonus it is the cheapest in it's class.
