Football Manager went downhill after FM07 December 4, 2008 Mr. C. E. Morton (Fleetwood, Lancashire) I bought this game last week and i'm an avid fan of the FM series, having followed them after 'The Split'. I was terribly disappointed with last years version. It was too difficult, and the gameplay was so infuriating that i often just turned the game off, untill that invisible addiction lured me back to it, just to see 'if it had changed' Eventually i went back to my game on FM07, where i'd got to the year 2040 and had enourmous fun. Then THIS version came out. 3D match engine. Press conferences. New Transfer systems. and much much more. How could i not get excited?! So i go to my local HMV and pay the princely sum of 27 for the new version, peck at all my friends to hurry up with their shopping as i want to get home and play this wonderful game. Then the problems start. After having to type in a code that Sherlock Holmes himself would be proud of, i finally get round to playing the game. I get to match day....and it crashes. I load it up again, and again and still it crashes. So i updated everything i could think of and now it's working fine, but the spark has gone. There was a time that all i ever did on my days off was play Champ Man. All day. I'd then discuss it with my housemate, who has the same obsession for it. Sad, i know, but life was good in those days. This game has completely ruined it for me. I've been a lifelong fan of the series, but it's been two games in a row now. I'm going to go back to that magical game of Fm07. And this game is going to go back to the shops.
Let down December 3, 2008 D Isappointed (U.K) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been playing this game since the early 90's and followed the SI team from Championship Manger to Football Manager but I have to say they will never see my money again.
I had the game for three weeks before finally getting it activated as my internet connection was down and it proved impossible to activate by phone (even when I got through to the emergency team they put on)!
That aside the game is now activated and working. So, happy days? Indeed not. This game is absolutely riddled with bugs. Even with the released patch it is still proving impossible to play. Crashes, freezes, inaccessible drop down menus are just three of the many bugs that ruin this game. Having had the game working for a few days now it's plain for me to see that it has been released well in advance of what it should have been (probably to capture the Christmas craze).
Take my advice, stay well clear and consider another management game.
SI games and SEGA, how could you get it so wrong?
AWFUL - AWFUL - AWFUL - did I mention AWFUL!!!! December 2, 2008 M. Heath (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am a huge football manager franchise fan and thought I would treat myself today so popped into WHS - what a MISTAKE I made!!!
I have just read the other reviews and agree with all the 1 stars - it took me four hours to get it loaded (the phone activation is an absolute joke by the way) and to my horror the game was slow (on a brand new sony laptop) and everytime I typed in a players name the letters came up twice!!
The game will be going back tomorrow as I can't be bothered downloading all the patches needed just in the first month of release.
I agree with a previous poster - AMAZON SHOULD WITHDRAW THIS GAME FROM SALE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE - the fact that a product has so many errors indicates that it is probably in contravention of the Sales of Goods Act 1979 s14(2) which states that a product sold should be of satisfactory quality by the standard of a 'reasonable person'.
Disgusting!
ATTENTION - THIS IS AN UPDATE on the above written last night
I wrote a review late last night and have subsequently returned the game so I thought I would add a few more points:
- YOU CAN RETURN THIS GAME PROVIDING YOU HAVE UNINSTALLED THE LICENSE
- Also, the shop assistant at WHS laughed when I showed him what I was returning, he informed me that he has personally had 12 returns of this game in the last week alone (unbelievable)
Good luck to all those that want to risk it but I STRONGLY advise you give this product a miss and either wait for next year or choose an alternative.
Please, please, please - all you IDIOTS!!!! at sega show some courage and WITHDRAW THE GAME because you're destroying your own franchise!!!!
DONT BUY- 4 DAYS AND STILL CANT PLAY IT!!!! December 2, 2008 David M. Colley (U.K) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this game 4 days ago and due to the shambolic activation process (set up to tackle piracy) I still cant play the damn thing! Dont get me wrong, anti-piracy measures are necessary but punishing legitimate consumers through awful processes defeats the object. My game came with an incorrect activation keycode and after s spent on the phone to sega support, not to mention effort and frustration, the problem is not solved. I will be taking this back to the shop at the next opportunity. Pity because I bet the game is quite good. AVOID! spend your hard earned cash on something else!!!!!!!!!
Activation nightmare continues December 2, 2008 Arcane Majere (Hampshire, UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you cannot get this game to run even after jumping through all the activation hoops you cannot return it or sell it on as there is way to de-activate any of the five activations you have used as the web site provided DOES NOT WORK!
