Decent trance music is alive and well July 8, 2007 Mr. Stuart Bruce (Bristol, UK) Trance music is having a bit of a hard time of it in the UK. Cheesy 80s-sampling disco numbers and Cascada-style "bosh bosh bosh" is alive and well but 'serious' or 'proper' trance music seems to have vanished.
It's a couple of years old now but "Bloom" is a reminder that it's actually alive and well, and living in America. Confident quality productions from Gabriel & Dresden themselves mix smoothly into some of their remixes of other acts (Lili Haydn and Above & Beyond) and a handful of tracks that G&D did not themselves have a hand in.
CD1 is a more straightforward clubbing mix, CD2 is more varied and throws in chunks of electro, as well as a proper acoustic number to round it all off. I really like the energy levels of each mix- they're high but not too high. You could just dance to this mix, but you could also do your accounts to it... or is that just me?
If back in the mid and late 90s you enjoyed the mixes of Paul Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyk, but you're a bit tired of the more mindless harder stuff that seems in vogue nowadays, then this is the compilation you've been looking for.
the new progressive October 25, 2004 J. J. Cook (london) 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
Not one for writing reviews, but as i am a huge fan of gabriel and dresden this had to be done. Progressive house gone through some strange periods since 1992, one moment its in the next its out. At the moment its out.....yep most of the critics find it boring now , and to be honest it has been. Enter production duo and djs gabriel and dresden, since hearing there essential mix on radio one last year they having given a ray of light to this genre of house. And so to this mix if your a fan of their stuff you will love it. the first cd is very much at where they are now with regards there dj sets and production. there is a fantastic reworking of the depeche mode tune "here is a house" sung by Andain. This first mix is very uplifting and mellow at times...and then banging. A great journey. The second cd is some what different, its more progressive with hints of techno beats , a lot more driving and fewer focals and needs to be played very loud. Further to this check the nip/tuck soundtrack which is also mixed by these too.
