5 out of 5 stars Bought it as a gift   August 7, 2007
Beatrice Nano (London)
I bought this as a gift for my niece, since I wanted her to be educated about classical music as she was on her way to college. Ended up buying two copies as I found I loved it so much. Normally I like to pick and choose my orchestras, composers, and conductors, but this collection has jujst about everything. Also, I'd never bought some of the more "popular" items (Strauss and Grieg) as I'd heard them a million times, but now I have them and the performances are all great. This truly has a smattering of it all, and if you're not a classical music lover, it's bound to turn you on to the stuff.

3 out of 5 stars Good value collection... but...   March 31, 2007

This 6 CD collection contains most of the popular classical music you could every want and is priced competitively. However many of the recordings are very old and the sound quality is at best adequate. A lot of the performances although technically excellent are dull and uninspiring. The packaging is bland with minimal information about the music or performers. If you want quality rather than quantity look elsewhere.

Yes I know lots of people have said this before but if you want a box set to add to your collection then this has to be it. Quite simply it has everything you will need to cover any mood you might be in. An essential purchase. 5 stars!

4 out of 5 stars Good beginner's collection   December 28, 2004

A very wide selection of pieces, organised into themes, although rather loosely if you ask me!! Some of them just didn't fit the theme. Mostly a good selection, but a few pieces that let the collection down.

A very good collection for someone new to classical music, but most classical fans will have the best pieces on this collection already and would do better buying something like the fantastic Tchaikovsky box set they have here.

5 out of 5 stars A perfect Gift   November 22, 2004

I get easily bored with most kind of music. But this collection is worth every penny, it is an excellent mixture. If you have to buy someone a gift, this would be a very good choice, even for those who are not so keen on classical music.
