Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
With 17 years industry experience, innumerable remixes, several hit singles and eight albums under his belt, Dutch DJ/Producer Ferry Corsten knows how to knock up a tune. The bombastic title of his latest album, L.E.F. - Loud, Electronic, Ferocious - seems overtly aimed at quieting any doomsday critics that are still flouncing around prophesying the "death of dance music". The contents certainly state a passionate case for the genre's ongoing vitality and ability to reinvent itself, as Corsten lets loose a take-no-prisoners tirade of electro, trance, pop and techno. The visceral pulse of 'Are You Ready' opens the onslaught, preparing the listener for retro anthems such as the record's first single 'Fire' (featuring Simon Le Bon), and 'Into The Dark' (with Howard Jones), and a storming series of trademark trance cuts - 'Beautiful', 'Posession' and a reworking of old favourite 'Galaxia'. The fire dies slightly during the second half of the album, with the likes of 'On My Mind' favouring sentimental chord groupings and female vocals, and 'Junk' (a remake of 'Punk') showcasing Guru's worst rap performance since Jazzmatazz 2, though Corsten redeems himself with the fiery 808 State 'tribute' 'Cubikated' and an elegant finale, 'Freefalling'. Not a perfect set then, but feisty and capable all the same. --Paul Sullivan

Ferry Corsten for me is at his best when he does the harder, trancier sounds. The slower tracks, and the more clubby, housey ones, I can do without.

This album has some of that harder trance, which is great, but quite a lot of it is cheesy, housey stuff which reduces the overal quality of the album.

The good news is that his pumping melodies and uplifting riffs are here in abundance (eg. "Galaxia" and "Are You Ready" prime examples), however there's more than a smattering of Eurovision-esque handbag cheese, too.

The album would have been 4 stars, but loses 1 star for the unwarranted cover version of 808 STATE's classic "Cubik" (here titled "Cubikated"). The mighty 808 State, back in the early 90's, were pioneers of melodic techno - "Cubik" was a cornerstone of the hard-edged darker trance that emerged from that time - and Mr. Corsten isn't fit to polish 808's shoes, let alone cover one of their classics. This was a silly, silly thing to do. Especially when Corsten has proved he's more than able to produce his own, original high-quality tunes!

The reason I bought this album was for the Howard Jones track, Into the dark. Glad I bought it, cause the whole album is fantastic. My favourite track is Beautiful, followed by Watch Out, ohh and Into The Dark ;-)

Ive been a fan of Ferry Corsten's music for many years, since his very early tracks. His early trance tracks such as "Out of the blue", "Don't be afraid" and "Gouryella" are some of my favourite songs ever. This album doesn't dissapoint, it seems he's paying heritage to his earlier style but keeping up with the progression of modern dance music at the same time, tracks like "LEF" and "Beautiful" are truly fantastic and hopefully will be dancefloor classics for many months. Ferry Corsten Rules. enough said.
