Product Description Amazing looks and great features come together in the CDX-GT420U from Sony. This car radio has a slimline shape and a host of technologically advanced functions. It stunning design is emphasised by its silver finish, while its S-MOSFET amplifier, 4 x 52 W sound capacity and DRIVE-S frame ensure incredible power and reduce sound distortion. The CDX-GT420U plays MP3 and WMA files, and thanks to its USB port and auxiliary input, you can hook up your music player and other external devices. The CDX-GT420U comes complete with a remote control, so you can keep your eyes on the road and your ears open to the music as you drive!

Very good but a couple of quirks... November 22, 2008 Ernie (London) Jonah, you don't need the remote to change the clock - you can simply press and hold down the scrollbar and then you can change the clock from there. Amongst other things. I've just installed this and it is a great piece of kit - but you may want to roll some high end frequencies off as the default flat EQ setting is SERIOUSLY bright - at least in an Audi. I heard that Sony had been working on a way to compensate for some of the frequency losses inherent in MP3 encoding. I have a similar unit in my other car (a 2006 model without USB) and it is much less bright so maybe this could be a result of this development. Another thing I've discovered with the USB functionality - the machine will read folders (and even tracks within them) in the order you created them onto the USB drive, regardless of the way you label them. Unless the "order of creation" is the same order that you want them read you may have to copy them back to your computer and then back onto the drive in your preferred (usually alphabetical) order. Hope that's clear!
Decent Multi-format player October 23, 2008 Jonah Whale (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm generally very please with the GT420U.
Pros:
- Plays common music formats (MP3/AAC/WMA) and works well irrespective of folder layout. - Reads ID tags and displays well. - Good sound quality. - Great radio. - Easy to install.
The single flaw that stops a 5-star review is that it comes with a remote control and this is needed to change the clock and take the display out of demo mode. The remote is small and no doubt easy to misplace, and then it's going to be seriously annoying.
great unit from sony March 9, 2008 David Rudeforth (UK) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
in short, this is a great unit due to easy installation and operation, very powerful sound (even with unamped speakers), brilliant usb feature (works well with my sony NW-E016 walkman, as well as simple flash memory drives), ease of use (sony systems always have simple controls and menus),pretty cool styling, good value for money, useful 7 preset equaliser settings, and remote control (why not?! useful if youre working on your car). great peice of kit in my opinion, especially if you dont intend to amp your speaker as it delivers a very powerful sound (if your speakers are any good).
