Dreadful January 6, 2009 Mr. Pf Curzon (UK) I was looking to play my iPOD Classic in my car and got this adapter. It is dreadful (probably faulty) but Beaufort Ltd give no returns policy ("ring them to find out" but no number supplied). It plays in mono not stereo, makes a noise when running in the cassette and on closer inspection looks to have been malassembled. Hopefully the credit crunch will force traders like this out of business as customers become more discerning.
It just didn't work! January 5, 2009 Helen Edmonds (Macclesfield, UK) I read the reviews on this product and saw that they were mixed; but i was so keen to get something to play my ipod in the car i thought i'd give it a go anyway, especially as the price was pretty low.
But unfortunately it didn't work. There was a little bit of muffled noise from one of the speakers and you could only hear some parts of the music.
It may be worth giving it a go, but it didn't work for me!!
sound ok, mechanics poor June 13, 2008 Andrew (Oxford, UK) First I'll say I bought this for playing MP3's in the car, and it works well enough, adn I'm happy with it. The sound is reasonable to good* for this kind of device. However, it doesn't work (mechanically) in my hi-fi cassette deck in the house. I think it's because it turns too stiffly, and the deck hasn't the welly to drive it. The result is that it stops playing before it even starts.
The cord-tidy mechanism is very useful, the reason I chose this model. I wanted the wires well out of the way of the air-bag, so that if it triggers the passenger doesn't get a face full of MP3 player moving at supersonic speed. And it works well, though it was a little tangled and stiff at first.
[*well, you compressed the audio with MP3, then you reduced it to cassette tape dynamic range, converted it to a magnetic signal, picked it up in an electrically noisy environment, and then you played it back on car speakers with the engine running and tyre noise, did you really expect Hi Fi?]
This is awful May 13, 2008 Mr. Jayesh Patel 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this because of other reviewers and though it would be OK. How wrong I was, the sound is awful. Firstly my tape player only plays it for a few seconds before stating there's a tape error. The sound quality is really really bad, it's not even bare able for the few seconds it plays. Don't buy this one! trust me spend your money on a Sony or Maxwell they are much better although a little more expensive.
Not worthy of all the good reviews on here February 18, 2008 D. Hunt (Surrey) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I recently purchsed this item as a replacement for my Sony CPA-9 Adaptor, which after 3 years of solid use finally died as the wires snapped because they had been wrapped around the tape one too many times - the easiest way to store it. The Sony wasn't perfect so I thought I'd see what alternatives there were and stumbled across this.
After reading the mostly positive reviews and with a little hesitation I decided that for how much it would cost me it was worth trying it. Having used this for 2 weeks now I can honestly say I wish I hadn't bothered.
My main issue is with the sound quality - this is absolutely terrible, it sounds like you're listening to music through mud. (Maybe it has something to do with the cassette player in the car, but I drive a modern car from the last few years so that doesn't figure.) More annoyingly any vocals are nearly inaudible and having tried listening to a range of music on this, the results are always the same - muddy and generally unlistenable. I honestly can't understand how most of the reviewers on here claim the sound quality to be so good...
Second issue is that it likes to just cut out and go to the radio at random. You don't have to touch anything, just be happily driving along, and all of a sudden it changes to the radio, without even ejecting the tape. This seems to happen spordaically and usually a few times in quick succession then is ok for the rest of the journey. As you can imgagine, really frustrating.
On the plus side though the retractable chord is actually a really good idea (my main reason for buying and the reason it gets 2 stars), but this could do with being longer as it doesn't reach further then halfway onto the passenger seat at full extension, and can be very tempremental when retracting, but then what else do you expect from a cheap product?
Due to the reasons above I wouldn't recommend this product and personally feel it's a waste of money - if you're unconvinced and are prepared to waste a few pounds then give it a shot, some people are seemingly happy with it, I on the other hand am going to buy another Sony.
