Give it a second chance...you'll love it! May 12, 2005 Anna Hill (Weymouth) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this album as I had previous AVH albums and was keen to get his new one after the release of possibly THE BEST dance single EVER released, Mymymy. But I was bitterly disappointed. I'd never really seen myself as an 80's music fan and was horrified to find that the 80's tracks listed on the album weren't cunning dance remixses but the originals!! The other tracks seemed a little strange (Watching Cars Go By and I Just Wanna Be A Drummer) leaving Armand's tracks as the saviours of the album!Deciding to give it a chance, as AVH surely is the God of all Dj's, I kept listening...and before I knew it I was hooked. I mean, big time. I couldn't get the songs out of my head and craved listening to all the 80's tunes!! I soon realised that his Mix Odyssey is actually musical genious spanning decades of dance floor fillers. I have to admit I was wrong. This album is FANTASTIC. Yazoo's 'Don't Go' is amazing, as is the track by the Romantics, with AVH's own tunes putting 5* icing on an already top notch cake. I saw Armand Van Helden play last weekend and got to meet him, I told him exactly my old concerns over the album and how I was now hooked and he said he wasn't surprised, a common reaction I'm told!! (Really cool guy by the way!!) Roll on the release of Nympho!!!
bouncing round your house with a BIG grin...fantastic!!! September 15, 2004 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
WOW!!! what an album!, this is the first AVH album i've ever bought and initially it was a present for my sister but i LOVED it so much i had to get myself a copy! From the expertly selected opener of Blondie's 'call me' to his gut churningly good, 'hairs on the back stander upper' new single MyMyMy (which never fails to make me jump around with euphoria!)I can honestly say there is not a bad track on this album!!! More of it please!!!
