Not getting better - another trance artist losing it? December 8, 2003 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
ATB released Movin Melodies a long time ago now. It is with no doubt the best album he has produced. In fact it is my favourite album of all time. The second album (2worlds) is possibly not as good but still very summery - very inspirational stuff. However, the next 2 albums. He has lost it, most german trance artists have lost it. This invention called 'Hard House' has ruined the 'trance' moods in both the albums.(I personally hate unsophisicated hard house music, which has become very popular because of the simplicity of the music). The simpleness of hard house means it is easier to social...etc. Real trance music are very unsociable music, as it is as the name suggests, causes a mood of 'trance', more for escapism than for social uses. Ok, he does not have to stick with all trance and ambient, but we all know that there are some pretty shallow music in Dedicated and Addicted to music. There is no real mood i can feel when i go from track to track, which is unlike the 1st 2 albums.Right, most music lovers will know what i mean. An album, is different from a simple compilation. This is well illustrated by chicane's album: far from the maddening crowds- This title already shows that it is to get away from the daily urban life - escapism. Let us look at the tracks: 1. Early 2. Aready there 3. Offshore (Original) 4. Lost you somewhere 5. From blue to green 6. Sunstroke (Disco citizens) 7. Leaving town 8. Red skies 9. Sunstroke (Original) 10.Offshore '97 11 The drive home. You should spot that this is like a journey. (journey through your tranced state). 1st track should put you in a trance and begin the story of 'early', in the morning. By track 2, you are there at the beach...etc and at the end you are coming to the end of your trance journey with the 'drive home' looking at the 'red skies'. To establish this trance journey to listeners is difficult. Chicane did this by using several sohphisicated techniques e.g. to represent the sunset, the use of heavy ambient strings, and the general tempo of the tracks are ambient. I generally prefer atb's ambient side of trance music, with the touch of summer feel. Addicted to music and Dedicated has no summer air. Atb's trance work is very nice in the 1st album,in tracks like sunburn and underwater world, close your eyes, and feel yourself flying into the skies above utopia.
'I Don't Wanna Stop' November 30, 2003 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Its 1999 and an unknown act, ATB, breaks onto the UK music scene with a smash hit that some of you may remember '9pm [till i come]' After that... 4 more releases from Mr. Tanneberger for the UK... Its 2003, ATB has released a total 0f 11 singles in his native Germany and is about to hit the UK once again. It wont be untill 2004 that his track 'I Dont Wanna Stop' will be released, but its heading for good things already with promotion in DJ Mag & Mixmag... Kinda went off the subject, ill get back. ATB's 4th studio album 'Addicted to music' is something you wouldnt expect from ATB... the guitar / pitch bend has gone and been replaced by a Canadian rock singer called 'Roberta' Take a listen for yourself...! For me, the best tunes are i dont wanna stop, long way home, sunset girl, trilogy [a nice piano instrumental], and well - all the rest. 2004 will be the year for ATB in the UK, on All Around The World records...!!!!

Four Years on from His first (uk released album) Movin melodies, DJ/producer Andre Tannenburger has changed his act slightly, still keepin it slightly trance, but his music now has become more ambient, He has now got a female vocalist who sings out some blissfully well-written lyrics. These tracks seem so much more meaningful than the old "Change and say till I come", The music itself is still pretty similar, tuneful, catchy trancey melodies that will stay in your mind, which work very well with the lyrics. The best track is the first track "In love with a Dj"All in all this is a very-good album, that is ambient yet uplifting, If you liked any of his earlier work this is highly recomended, just once question Mr. Tannenburger; WHY NO UK RELEASE?
