4 Years On... March 31, 2003 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Andre Tanneberger, the man behind “ATB” has been in the business for about 10 years now, with “ATB” being his most popular and successful project name. “9pm [Till I Come]” was the song that made ATB in the UK, and in countless other countries. “Movin Melodies” was ATB’s debut album, and a fantastic one at that. Mixing deluxe chill-out vibes with lush beats and synths, ATB managed to create some of the most sophisticated sounds that never seem to bore. I got this album way back in March 2000, when The Summer was just around the corner, with Killer being released around the same time, which was “ATB’s” 3rd UK top 5 hit. A low down on the tracks then? – I think so! First up we have “The First Tones” which introduces a mellow vibe to the album, only being 2 minutes long there isn’t much time until the 2nd track comes into force with a more melodic vibe, “Emotion” brings something to the album that’s something quite different – which mixes nicely into the 3rd track “Underwater World”, a vibrant mix of unique sounds. Now were onto perhaps one of the shortest songs known to man, and beast. Zwischenstuck is only 54 seconds long, and plays the “pan pipe” version of “9pm [Till I Come]” with no vocals, which drives into the full UK Radio Edit of 9pm. Killer 2000 starts off very slow, with “Drew Williams” on vocals. This is a cover of the Seal hit from the early 1990’s and has recently been covered by the “Sugababes” Don’t stop is next on the agenda, ATB’s 2nd single is really a cover of 9pm with different vocals! Still a great summer tune! “Obsession” is next, a nice track that starts off slow and builds up to a bangin’ yet at the same time, a chilled track. “My Dream” features the pan pipes – and is a unique sound yet again, not my favourite track on the album as I think its more filler than killer, still a nice track but without it Movin Melodies would still be a great album, this track isn’t essential. “Kayama” is one of the best ATB tunes ever using lush sounds and piano riffs that really make you feel great! “Movin Melodies”, title track, is a good song, suites the style of this album. “Beach Vibes” is a great tune, nearly 9 minutes long and will really make you feel you NEED the beach! Sunburn is something from a dream, its includes some kind of drum sound effect and tempting vocals that would suit a place like Africa. This cd also includes some special remixes that really are special, including remixes by Matt Darey, Quake and Sash! Also includes some special features including a now very outdated biography, videos of 9pm and don’t stop, special photo’s, screensaver and even VIP web site access, which doesn’t work now anyway as Ministry of Sound deleted the web link not long after the album was released in 2000. All in all a great album – if you wanna feel good, relax, chillout or want an album for a party then buy ATB’s Movin Melodies!
perfect music for chilling out during work, writing poems... January 2, 2002 airplayremix@aol.com (bristol, england) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I love relaxing with atb's music! OK, in the first album - Movin Melodies, it is so relaxing. The odd one out in the album is probably killer and even 9 pm, which somehow is more upbeat. Anyway, the album is amazing for chilling out, comparing with other chillout beatless chill out compilation with these synth lines which youve heard all before. In short, this album is hypnotic., beachy, trancy (cus it does bring you to trance), unpoppy, sandy, windy, watery, whatever you wanna describe it. It gives me all sorts of visions, swimming in the middle of the ocean (underwater world), then suddenly, teleported by the music to a peopleless beach (beach vibes)..etc.. I have heard that people dont like it because its not very hardcore industrial super-pro-acid techno etc etc, look this is trance. Trance makes you in a state of trance, and if you look in a dictionary, that is a sleeplike state, hypnotized etc. This album gives you exactly this
BETTER THAN SASH! AND CO. ANY DAY!!!! February 20, 2001 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
THIS ALBUM IS FANTASTIC! THERE IS NOTHING THAT KEEPS ME COMING BACK TO IT OVER AND OVER. I NEVER GET BORED OF IT AND I WILL KEEP THIS CD FOREVER BECAUSE OF ITS NEVER ENDING BRILLIANCE! NOTHING CHEERS ME UP OR KEEPS ME HAPPY MORE THAN THIS! ALL THE SONGS ARE GREAT. EVERYONE HAS A DIFFERENT FEELING TO THEM, THE SOOTHING BACKGROUND SOUNDS ARE GREAT AND THE PUMPING BEATS TO THEM ARE FANTASTIC. IF YOU'RE A FAN OF ATB'S SINGLES THEN I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU'D BUY THIS BECAUSE IT'S SO FANTASTIC, I DON'T THINK I CAN RECOMMEND IT TO YOU ANYMORE THAN I HAVE! GO GET IT!!!
For anyone who likes that pitch bend guitar! October 14, 2000 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
After the masterpiece that was 9pm Till I come, I rushed out and bought the cover of Adamski's tune now entitled Killer 2000, and had no hesitation to grap this on import for a rather expensive 16 to impress my friends, (they pratically worshipped 9pm). As I waited for the mail that day, Grabbed the HMV box, tore it open to find possibly the best looking box (Sorry if that sounded a bit sad!) I had ever seen on an album (I fell for the silver blaring back in my face). About 1 second later the CD was in my little (silver) cd player, and was expecting a new beating dancefloor tune, which shall we say isn't exactly what 'The First Tones' turned out as, and suddenly I got the feeling this album might be a bit cheap. as the energetic snare shot me into 'Emotion' and heard that pitch bend bassline my assumption started to become more true, especially as the chessy melody came into a very one dimensional tune. Finally after the fairly naff Underwater World and The rather terrible Intro of Zwischenstuck, That Nice sounding lady decided to say 'Till I Come' and I breathed softly and decided that it might not be such a rip off. Through the Hard Bass of 'Killer' My faith was renewed (I love this tune more then 9pm!). Then... was suddenly killed again, with possibly the worst tune I've heard for a long time, 'Too Much Rain' shows up, This is very much trying to do something ATB can't do, Not have a catchy beat, a bouncy bassline and a cheesy melody, 'My Dream tries to attempt this but fails with it's melody, and this is shown throughout most of the album, where he really needs some Deep Basslines, Hard Acid Melodies and Rocking Breakbeats. 'Obsession and Beach Vibes' are a lot lighter, and are 2 of the best tracks here simply for being something different than the usual. The only Tracks that seem to have real effort put into them are 'Movin Melodies', 'Sunburn', 'Don't Stop', 'Obsession' and of course '9pm Till I come'. So with this album, be warned If you are the BT/PvD type avoid it, Alice Deejay/Darude types should grab this. In this album it seems that Mr Andre Tanneberger is scared to do much different which is what he needs. Holographic1 Signing off....P.S. Which ever one of your reviewers Amazon.co.uk said that ATB is better than Paul Van Dyk, You need to take another listen because basically: This is Flat Cheesy House/Trance PvD is a Trance/Techno Genius!
